On the other end of the phone, Trista was on a video call with Camille, with Archer sitting nearby.
Trista pouted, “You guys are so mean, having lunch together again without me.”
“Because you have school. When school is out, I’ll pick you up myself. How about the three of us have dinner together tonight?”
“Sounds good.” Trista said, glancing at Archer again.
Archer asked, “What do you want for dinner tonight? I’ll have someone prepare it in advance.”
Trista brightened up and rattled off all her favorite dishes. Archer listened quietly beside her.
After Trista finished, Camille complimented her clothes. “Trista, your outfit looks really nice. It suits you perfectly.”
“Really?”
Camille smiled and nodded. “Of course it’s true.”
She then asked, “How was your day at school, Trista? Did you get along well with the other kids?”
They chatted happily, back and forth. Archer rarely spoke, just slowly ate his lunch with his knife and fork.
Anyone might have thought they were a family.
Trista saw the video call coming from Melanie.
She was the one who had insisted Melanie call her at noon, but now she was having too much fun talking to Camille to hang up.
She had been upset that morning when she saw Melanie hug another child.
But during class today, the teacher said, “Every child is unique in their mother’s heart and can never be replaced by another child.” That reassured her a lot.
Soon, she received a text message from Melanie, asking how her day at school was, if she’d made new friends, what she ate for lunch, and reminding her to listen to the teacher and take a good nap when it was time.
She replied with a voice message, “Got it, Mom. I’ll take a good nap.”
Melanie and Jewell had spent the day together, and Melanie found Jewell to be outgoing, sociable, and quite capable at work.
Around six in the evening, Jewell came over and offered to treat her to dinner to thank her for the guidance that day.
“It’s just part of my job. You don’t have to be so formal.”
Jewell was about to insist when Melanie’s phone suddenly rang. It was Rebecca.
Melanie thought she had read the caller ID wrong.
Rebecca usually gave her the cold shoulder.
“Erasmus has been secretly racing. I don’t trust him. I’ll text you the address. Go bring him back.”
Rebecca didn’t waste words. She hung up immediately after giving the command.
A few seconds later, an address was sent to Melanie’s phone.
Melanie glanced at it and saw it was a racetrack in the suburbs.
She told Jewell, “I’m sorry, I have an emergency I need to deal with. I have to go.”

It took Melanie over an hour to reach her destination.
The racetrack was huge and crowded at night. The noise was deafening.
She tried calling Erasmus, but he didn’t pick up. After searching for almost twenty minutes, she finally spotted him.
Erasmus was shocked to see Melanie. “Luna Melanie? What are you doing here?”
Melanie explained why she was there. Erasmus immediately raised his hand and swore, “It’s my favorite racer–the number one female racer in the US, CC’s–first race since she came back! I can’t miss it! I promise, I’ll go home right after the race. I won’t cause any trouble! Just let me be and go back!”
“But-”
Before Melanie could finish, a sudden cheer erupted from the front. Everyone was shouting “CC’s” name.
“CC is coming out?!”
Hearing the commotion, Erasmus completely forgot about Melanie. He screamed excitedly with the rest of the audience and pulled out his binoculars, staring in the direction of the starting line.
His face was full of fervor and excitement. Melanie asked with some surprise, “When did you get into racing?”
She hadn’t spent much time with Erasmus, but she knew he had no interest in racing before.
