The Breaking Point of Mate: Giving Up on My Alpha novel Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Melanie’s POV

Several race cars zoomed past, vanishing in a blink and setting off a wave of screams from the crowd.

Erasmus watched for a moment through the binoculars, then shoved them back at me. Check this out! She’s driving so daring and steadyit’s super cool! Seriously, look!

I took them and found Camille’s car on the track.

A short time later, Camille seized a perfect moment and executed an incredible extreme overtake on a curve.

Everyone was stunned by her bold move, gasps of amazement echoing everywhere.

I had never paid attention to racing before, but in that moment, even I was shocked by Camille’s skill and couldn’t move for a long time.

I suddenly thought, There’s definitely a reason Archer is obsessed with Camille.

I also noticed that even the usually calm and reserved Archer was visibly showing surprise and admiration.

Trista and Edric literally jumped up from their seats, waving excitedly towards the track.

As the race intensified, Erasmus snatched the binoculars back.

I wondered if he was so focused on Camille that he hadn’t even noticed Archer and Trista were here.

The race paused, with Camille in the lead.

I reached for the binoculars again, and Erasmus said excitedly, You’re hooked on her too, aren’t you?!

I just smiled and didn’t answer.

I actually felt like pulling out my phone right then and calling Archer to see how he’d react.

Most likely, he’d see my caller ID and immediately hang up.

That’s how Archer always treated me, Thinking about that, I decided the call wasn’t necessary. I didn’t want to make it. It just felt pointless.

But then I thought, What the hell. Let this be the last time.

So I picked up my phone and dialed Archer’s number, raising the binoculars to the stands across the way.

I watched with my own eyes as Archer saw my name pop up on his screen, hit the hangup button without a second thought, and then immediately directed his gaze back to Camille on the track.

There wasn’t even the slightest pause. It was like his eyes only had room for Camille, and no one else.

The instant the call was hung up, the mating bondalready riddled with holessnapped like a thread overwhelmed by the final straw. It shattered into dust in my consciousness with a hollow thrum.

There was no ripping pain this time, just a slight, almost nonexistent tremor, followed by an overwhelming emptiness.

Frost curled up deep in my mind. No anger, no hurt, not even the instinctive whimper it used to make. Just total silence, as if it had finally accepted the end of the bond.

I took a deep breath, pushing down that last little tremor.

I smiled, lightly pressed the screen off on my phone, and calmly handed the binoculars back to Erasmus.

Chapter 22

I didn’t watch the rest of the race, and I didn’t pay attention to Archer anymore.

When all the races were over, Camille took first place.

Erasmus was beside himself with excitement. He grabbed his friends and said he wanted to go get Camille’s autograph.

But I heard CC is a rich heiress and a Ph.D. grad. Racing is just a hobby for her. She doesn’t need fans, and she doesn’t try to win them over. She usually leaves right after the race and never signs autographs. Getting her signature is pretty much impossible.

Yeah, this was a private event. We might have had a chance for a signed photo, but there’s a racersonly tunnel. We don’t have the connections to get in. Ugh

While Erasmus and his friends were talking, they heard that Camille had already left with her friends to celebrate.

Just then, Rebecca called, urging us to come home. I shot down Erasmus’s request to go out with his friends, and got ready to

take him back.

Before leaving, I stopped by the restroom.

As I was coming out, I accidentally bumped right into someone.

My bad.

Sorry.

We both stepped back and apologized at the same time.

When I looked up and saw his face, I pausedit was Dwight, another one of Archer’s close friends.

Dwight’s expression turned cold when he saw me.

I noticed it, of course.

I’d known Archer since I was ten, and Archer and Dwight had been best friends since childhood.

They were super tight. They went to school together and played together when they were kids, and they still meet up for parties and work on projects together as adults.

But whether it was when we were kids or after we mated, Archer always kept me out of his circle.

So even though I’d known Dwight, Edric, and the others for over ten years, we were not even on nodding terms.

However, soon after Archer met Camille, he introduced her to Dwight’s group.
