Third Person’s POV
Isaiah was stunned. “Then what was the ‘personal reason‘ you mentioned?”
Camille didn’t want to get into it. “Just some personal bad blood.”
“But-”
“What is it?”
Isaiah realized he had completely misunderstood; his quitting had nothing to do with Camille.
He couldn’t help but ask, “What kind of skills does Melanie have? I heard she hasn’t finished her Ph.D. yet, is she-”
“She hasn’t just not finished her Ph.D. She only has a bachelor’s degree. She never even went to grad school.”
“Wait, really?”
“Mhm.” Camille’s tone was very cold when she said this.
She hadn’t expected Melanie to actually leave the Atkinson Group, and she certainly didn’t expect Melanie to rely on connections to get another job instead of pursuing a higher degree.
Honestly, Melanie really lacks vision and ambition.
Isaiah asked, “So, what are your plans now?”
“I have a major car race coming up soon, so I need to focus on practicing. I’ll worry about work later.”
“Oh, okay…”
Isaiah knew Camille was multi–talented. Sometimes he wondered if all these activities meant her professional knowledge would get rusty.
But then he remembered how brilliant Camille was and figured she must be different from everyone else–if she planned it this way, she must have it handled.
Meanwhile, at the Atkinson Group, Archer was flipping through a document, not looking up. “Have someone make me a cup of
coffee.”
“Yes, Mr. Atkinson.”
This was Jewell’s first time personally brewing coffee for Archer. She was both excited and nervous.
Following the steps Melanie taught her, she carefully prepared the coffee. Rufus delivered the cup to Archer.
Archer put down his file, picked up the cup, gently stirred it, and raised it to his lips. He paused before drinking–the scent wasn’t right.
He took a tiny sip anyway, then immediately set the cup down. “Have her make a new one.”
Rufus was surprised. “Understood.”
Jewell got the message and panicked a little. “A new one? Did I add too much sugar, or is the flavor off? I followed Melanie’s steps exactly, and I got the sugar right. It shouldn’t be wrong.”
“I have no idea,” Rufus said.
Jewell had no choice but to brew a second cup.

Maybe she was too nervous, but this time, Archer didn’t even taste it. He just smelled it and knew it was wrong.
He set the cup down and asked Rufus, “What’s the problem?”
“Jewell is making your coffee for the first time, Alpha Archer. She’s probably a little nervous and didn’t control the heat well…”
Archer frowned. “Jewell? Who is Jewell? Where is Melanie?”
Rufus looked stunned. “Melanie resigned from the company. You… didn’t know?”
Archer didn’t say anything.
He knew Melanie had made Rufus angry over her attitude and that Rufus wanted to fire her, but…
“When did she leave?”
“Last Thursday.”
“Got it.” In Archer’s mind, Melanie was probably just taking a few days off. She would probably come back on her own soon enough.
Rufus asked, “What about the coffee?”
“Take it away. Get me a glass of water.”
“Yes, Alpha Archer.”
At noon, Elmer went out for a business meeting.
Melanie ate alone in the company cafeteria. The coworkers were polite, but not friendly.
Melanie didn’t mind. After lunch, she continued working through her tasks.
Around five in the afternoon, Melanie went to find Ainslie. “I think I’m done. Can you take a look?”
“Done with what?” Ainslie was confused. He looked at the documents Melanie sent over. At first, he was utterly lost, but the more he read, the more shocked he became. His eyes went wide.
“You… you finished all of it?”
That was over ten days‘ worth of Isaiah’s work, and she had not only understood everything but completed it in less than a day?
Melanie nodded. “Mhm.”
Ainslie was completely speechless. What shocked him even more was that Melanie hadn’t just finished the work well; the solutions she proposed gave him several new perspectives for his own work that he hadn’t considered before!
The others heard the commotion and crowded around. They were all stunned once they realized what had happened.
Ainslie turned back to Melanie, his face full of disbelief. “Are you… really just a current grad student?”
Melanie paused, then told the truth. “I didn’t go to grad school.”
How was that possible? All of them were Ph.D.s or Masters from elite universities, and they were just put to shame by someone with only a bachelor’s degree?
