On second thought, Alaina realized Silas hadn't mentioned a single word about it. He even told her last time that it was best if she didn't remember. Why should she out herself out of a guilty conscience?
She forcefully threw the blanket off, sat bolt upright, and stared straight ahead, feigning absolute composure.
Silas kept his gaze locked on her, clearly confused, but remained silent as well.
The observation room grew so terrifyingly quiet it made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up.
"Well, she's fine for now," Logan's voice drifted in, breaking the heavy silence. "But..."
Logan paused, acutely aware of the strange tension between the two of them.
He looked at Silas, then back at Alaina.
"Since I'm fine, I can leave now, right?" Alaina asked eagerly.
"Maintain a regular schedule and absolutely no overtime," Logan instructed with dead seriousness. He then turned to Silas, showing zero intimidation, and spoke politely but firmly. "Mr. Summers, you strike me as a man of vision, so you should understand that rushing things only leads to failure. As Alaina's attending physician and best friend, can I ask you to strictly monitor this irresponsible behavior of hers?"
Silas stood up and gave Logan a solemn nod of agreement.
Seeing that Alaina was deliberately avoiding Silas's gaze, Logan quickly added, "Please wait outside, Mr. Summers. I have a few private instructions for her."
Only after Silas stepped out and closed the door could Alaina finally breathe normally again.
Logan crossed his arms. "You're acting weird."
She fell silent, guilt gnawing at her.
Even though Logan was her closest friend, it was too humiliating to admit.
She wished the whole incident would just rot in her stomach forever.
"Don't tell me you..." Logan leaned in closer.
