He walked over slowly. Seeing her deadly serious expression, the amusement in his eyes deepened.
Without another word, he approached the bed. Instead of lying down, he leaned back comfortably against the headboard. His movements were unhurried, as if the surveillance outside was utterly trivial.
He reached out, picked up an open book from the nightstand, and casually flipped a page.
Alaina turned her head, and seeing how entirely unbothered he was, couldn't help but urge him, "Why are you reading? They're watching us right now."
"There's no need to panic," Silas said calmly.
Hearing this, Alaina frowned immediately.
If they didn't need to put on a show for situations like this, why had he been hugging and holding her so intimately the last few times?
If the enemy didn't feel like they were making progress, they wouldn't have grown so desperate as to resort to drugging her.
She absolutely refused to be drugged a second time.
Thinking about it only made her more anxious.
"Lie down, now," she commanded with absolute seriousness. "Only if we're sleeping together will they think their dirty trick worked, and then they'll back off."
The moment the words left her mouth, she regretted them.
Silas gave her a cool, sideways glance. Their eyes met, and he asked with a mocking edge to his voice, "Didn't you claim you couldn't remember anything?"
Alaina's mind instantly went blank. Her face burned hot, and she rolled onto her side in frustration, clutching the blanket tightly with both hands.
"I... I meant... their dirty trick of spying on us with a thermal camera," she countered stubbornly, digging her heels in.
Silas's tone was flat. "Spit it out properly."
Since it had already come to this, Alaina hardened her resolve. She sat up and shot back angrily, "I only just remembered it! Either way, that definitely counts as a workplace injury. You owe me a formal apology."
