At that moment, Alaina was utterly convinced that Ethan was still entirely clueless.
"It's not Logan," she stated flatly.
Before she could finish her sentence, a deep, commanding voice called out softly from right behind her. "Alaina."
The sheer dominance in that single word was suffocating, instantly staking an indisputable, absolute claim over her.
Silas strode smoothly to Alaina's side. With entirely natural grace, he lifted his arm and wrapped it firmly around her waist. The gesture was surprisingly tender and intimate, forming a stark, jarring contrast to the terrifying, untouchable aura radiating off him.
Then, his lips parted, and he delivered two simple words that completely obliterated every last one of Ethan's delusions.
"My wife."
His wife?
Ethan's entire body locked up, instantly turning to stone. His initial shock and confusion instantly warped into sheer, unadulterated horror.
He stared blankly at the scene unfolding right in front of his eyes, all the color instantly draining from his face. "You two?"
"I am Mrs. Summers now," Alaina said, maintaining fierce, unbroken eye contact with him.
"Mrs. Summers?" Ethan let out a breathless, manic laugh, grinding his teeth as he desperately clung to his last shred of sanity and glared at Silas. "Silas, Alaina is my wife, do you understand that?"
"Ethan, we are officially divorced."
"I never signed the papers! What divorce?"
Alaina stared at Ethan's bloodshot, furious eyes. "Then you need to take that up with Mr. Fletcher. He's the one holding the divorce certificate. Our divorce was finalized the exact second the cooling-off period expired."
Having delivered the final blow, she looked up at Silas. "Let's go."
Silas nodded, keeping his arm securely around Alaina as he escorted her back to the SUV.
The blood in Ethan's veins practically turned to ice. Shaking his head, he repeatedly muttered, "That's impossible," as he sprinted back to his car.
He immediately dialed Harvey Fletcher's number. Harvey cheerfully mentioned he was just about to leave the law firm.
"Stay right there," Ethan snarled, hanging up and slamming his foot on the gas pedal.
