Alaina rested her chin on her hand, quietly looking at him.
As Silas finished speaking, his face remained largely expressionless, staying aloof as though he were recounting someone else's story.
In the past, she had secretly despised Silas.
She still found it hard to forgive the things Lily had done to her.
So, she always felt that Silas, as Lily's guardian, bore an undeniable responsibility for her actions.
Now, she understood.
No one can take responsibility for another person's life.
Even if they were bound by blood, it was still true.
She knew Silas's objection to Lily and Ethan's marriage stemmed from much deeper considerations.
But right now, she wanted to comfort him, yet didn't know where to begin.
Anything she could say felt inadequate.
She could only tell him softly, "You've already done an amazing job."
Silas raised his eyes to look at her but remained silent.
Assuming she had said the wrong thing, Alaina quickly lowered her head and kept quiet.
Meanwhile, at Ethan's villa.
Lily drove over and, upon entering, wrapped him in a tight hug.
Trembling with grievance, she could barely hold herself together.
Ethan patted Lily's back gently, though his face remained stoic, completely devoid of his usual tenderness.
Sounding like a robot, he asked flatly, "What happened?"
Lily, burying her face in his chest, croaked, "If I stay with you, I can no longer be a part of the Summers family."
Ethan's eyes narrowed, but he replied softly, "Going against Silas for my sake... it's not worth it."
Lily lifted her head, looking at him with teary eyes. Her voice hitched with a sob. "I... I don't care. Even if I have to fight the whole world, I just want you."
"Lily, do you really love me that much?" he asked, secretly twitching his lips in a scoff. "Have you ever considered that maybe this is all just an obsession? Maybe neither of us really knows what love is."
"Ethan." A flash of panic crossed Lily's eyes. "Why are you saying that? Are you saying... you don't want to get engaged?"
