The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 208

Alaina stared quietly at the patterns on the hospital floor. "It's all in the past now."

She turned to look at him seriously. "Ethan, don't carry the burden of my illness on your shoulders. Me getting sick has absolutely nothing to do with you."

"Back in college, I never took care of myself. I thought skipping meals didn't matter because I was young. I'm doing perfectly fine now."

"You probably won't like hearing this, but for a while, I was in a lot of pain. After the divorce, though, things got a lot better. I get to do the work I love. I honestly feel luckier and more content than a lot of completely healthy people."

"And I've realized something even deeper. Aside from life and death, nothing else really matters. Love, breakups, getting back together—when you look back on it all later, you realize it was just a fleeting phase."

"Ethan, stop obsessing over going back to the way things were. There is absolutely no future for us anymore. We both need to move forward."

Ethan kept his head bowed, his shoulders shaking violently. He looked up, his eyes brimming with tears, and choked out, "I don't want anything from you anymore. I just want you to be okay."

A wave of emotion hit Alaina's eyes. She offered him a gentle smile and, without hesitation, reached out and held his hand. "We'll both be okay."

At that exact moment, Silas turned the corner with Zachary trailing behind him.

Seeing Silas, Alaina froze for a split second, instinctively releasing Ethan's hand.

Silas's piercing gaze locked dead onto the hand she had just let go of. The air pressure in the corridor instantly dropped to a terrifying chill.

He stood there without saying a single word. His obsidian eyes bored into the exact spot where their hands had been intertwined, his expression turning frighteningly murderous.

Alaina parted her lips, just about to call out to him, but Silas abruptly spun on his heel and stormed out of the corridor, leaving behind a suffocatingly icy aura.

Watching Silas vanish around the corner, Ethan felt a deep sense of dread settle in his stomach.

Just then, Logan stepped out of the endoscopy room. "Alaina, we're ready for you."
