The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 209

Alaina froze, watching his retreating figure march away without a second of hesitation. A sudden, inexplicable bitterness washed over her chest, and the dull throb in her swollen ankle flared up sharply.

Biting her lip, she called out to his broad back just as he reached the front door. "Silas, wait."

Silas's hand paused on the doorknob.

Alaina limped over to him and asked directly, "Are you mad at me?"

Silas turned his head to look at her. His handsome features were entirely engulfed in shadows, his thin lips pressed into a harsh, unyielding line. For a long moment, he didn't utter a single sound. His dark, bottomless eyes simply locked onto hers, seeing right through the sliver of panic she was desperately trying to hide.

Under his piercing gaze, her heart tightened painfully. "If you're angry, just tell me why."

"If it's because you saw me holding his hand at the hospital today, it was literally just a gesture of comfort. It doesn't mean I still have feelings for him."

The icy aura radiating from Silas didn't thaw in the slightest. "I know," he replied in a dangerously low voice.

She blinked in confusion, entirely thrown off.

She was confident she knew him well enough to sense when he was genuinely furious.

"If you're not mad, then why have you been deliberately avoiding me these past few days?" she pressed.

"I haven't been avoiding you," Silas said, his tone chilling to the bone.

"You absolutely have." She refused to let it go, determined to force the truth out of him. "Silas, if this isn't about what happened today, is it about what happened the other night?"

"I've been thinking about this constantly. You're avoiding me because you're terrified I'm going to beg you for mercy on Ethan's behalf, aren't you?"

Silas neither confirmed nor denied her accusation, merely observing her with an intense, suffocating pressure in his eyes.

"Fine, let me make this crystal clear right now," she snapped, suppressing the sudden flare of anger bursting in her chest. "The only reason I didn't press charges against Ethan is because I know he isn't inherently malicious. What he did was incredibly impulsive, but his core intention wasn't to hurt me. I just want to put the whole ordeal behind me."

"As for what he did to Lily and the humiliation he brought upon your family—how you choose to handle that is entirely your business. I am fully aware of my place in this house, and I have absolutely no right to offer my opinion on the matter."
