The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 226

Silas gave a soft murmur of agreement.

Alaina turned around to face him, walking backward as he moved forward.

Before she knew the truth about his condition, she had simply assumed his rigid dietary restrictions were just a matter of strict self-discipline.

Later, she realized he was meticulously controlling every aspect of his health to fight his genetic fate.

The thought made her heart ache for him.

She breathed a puff of white mist into the chilly air, looking up at the rare scattering of stars in the night sky. "I feel like telling another terrible joke."

Silas looked at her, his eyes filled with overwhelming tenderness, and softly warned, "Watch where you're walking."

"Here I go," Alaina announced, her eyes curving in amusement as she cleared her throat. "One day, a little tomato was crossing the street. It got run over by a car. When it stood back up, guess what it said?"

Silas shook his head.

Alaina grinned. "Wow, I'm ketchup!"

Silas blinked for two seconds. Seeing her looking up at him with those bright, expectantly shining eyes, he obligingly let out a low chuckle.

Just as Alaina opened her mouth to speak again, her foot caught on an uneven paving stone, and she stumbled backward.

Silas instantly shot out an arm, catching her firmly by the waist and hauling her flush against his chest. "I told you to watch where you're walking," he sighed in exasperation.

Regaining her footing, Alaina quipped, "Well, I knew you'd catch me."

Silas shook his head with a sigh, turned her to face forward, and then stepped into a nearby convenience store to buy a pack of wet wipes.

With only one bite of cotton candy left in her hand, Alaina offered, "Do you want to taste the last bite? Once it's gone, it's gone."

Silas shook his head as he tore open the packaging.

The moment she finished the last bite, Silas took her hands in his, meticulously wiping away the sticky sugar residue coating her fingers.

A soft smile graced her lips. "Thank you."
