Enveloped in the warm steam, she felt her entire body ignite. She wanted nothing more than for the ground to swallow her whole.
Silas dragged his fingertips across the aged parchment, his movements slow and deliberate, absorbing every detail of the illustrations.
He cast a glance at her trembling back. "It's an ancient text meant to instruct newlyweds on how to properly spend their first night. Are you sure you don't want to read it together? I can translate."
Alaina whipped her head around to glare at him, laughing helplessly while her ears burned red. "I don't make a habit of reading erotica with an audience."
Silas let out a low, husky laugh that vibrated deep in his chest.
He slowly closed the book and tossed it onto the bedside table.
Planting his hand beside her ear, his nose brushed against her flushed temple. His voice was raw with barely restrained lust, utterly intoxicating as it cascaded over her ear: "I want to give you the absolute best... including a perfect wedding night."
Bathed in the warm light, the corners of her eyes were tinged with red, her gaze damp and her eyelashes fluttering in breathless anticipation. She looked breathtakingly vulnerable.
He stared down into her clear, panicked eyes, his lips hovering mere inches from hers. His breath was scorching hot, his words heavy with devotion:
"Alaina, do you want this?"
Caught in his intense gaze, only one thought echoed in her mind.
She wanted this.
She wanted him.
She wanted to be this man's wife in every possible way, body and soul.
She didn't pull back. The shyness in her eyes melted away, replaced by a fierce, burning longing.
Tilting her head up, she pressed her lips against his, giving him her answer in action.
