The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 39

Everyone froze, entirely caught off guard.

Arthur stood up. "Mrs. Harrington, you must be misunderstanding me. Why do you insist on taking everything I say so personally?"

"Do you think I'm deaf to your passive-aggressive insults?" old Mrs. Harrington raged. "Take a good look in the mirror! If your daughter hadn't struck the lottery marrying into our family, what right would you ever have to sit at a Harrington dining table?"

"Mom, what are you saying?" Mrs. Harrington panicked, rushing to de-escalate. "I am so sorry, Arthur, my mother is getting old..."

"It's fine, it's fine. Don't worry about it," Arthur chuckled, then turned his gaze squarely onto old Mrs. Harrington. "Ma'am, you truly have misunderstood me."

"I'm not being passive-aggressive at all. I am insulting you directly to your face."

"What did you just say?"

Old Mrs. Harrington scowled, the atmosphere instantly thick with explosive tension.

Alaina looked at her father in sheer bewilderment.

For as long as she could remember, whether in their rural town or when he brought her to the Capital City to make a living, Arthur had always been the most pragmatic, worldly man she knew.

He used to preach that scientific research was a man's game and was obsessed with marrying his daughter into wealth.

If news of a divorce made it back to their hometown, he would consider it the ultimate humiliation.

While she was still reeling, Arthur shot her a look of absolute conviction. He raised a finger, pointing it directly at the Harringtons. "You all... listen to me very carefully. My daughter was born with a good heart. She has the soul of a saint. Otherwise, she never would have come here to save a family of ungrateful backstabbers like you."

"Arthur, please watch your language," Ethan commanded coldly. "Don't drag Alaina down into this pathetic display."

Arthur glared at them, letting out a contemptuous, roaring laugh. "You're the ones acting completely shameless, yet here you are playing the moral high ground. You all took turns humiliating my own flesh and blood right in front of me, and you thought I was blind? I've been tolerating you all night!"
