The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 40

"Grandma, please just stop," Ethan said, his expression incredibly conflicted. "I owe my complete recovery entirely to Alaina. Even if I had to give her every cent of my fortune, she would deserve it."

"You foolish boy, what kind of nonsense are you spouting?" old Mrs. Harrington gasped, her eyes bulging.

Ethan gestured for her to stop talking and turned to Alaina. "Go with your dad for now."

"Madam, are you alright?"

At that moment, the butler let out a terrified shout, rushing to catch a terrifyingly pale Mrs. Harrington as she swayed on her feet.

Ethan instantly sprinted over to check on her, throwing the entire room into total, uncontrollable chaos.

Seeing the panic unfold, Alaina made no move to help. She simply pulled Arthur along and walked out the door.

Sitting in the passenger seat of the truck, Alaina listened to Arthur practically cursing a blue streak as he drove, yet her heart had never felt warmer.

Arthur admitted he was a rough man who didn't know how to comfort her properly, nor could he offer any profound advice.

But he made one thing crystal clear: if she was ever unhappy, she should just come home. Her home would always be her home.

At her age, it was the single most beautiful thing she had ever heard her father say.

Suddenly, she felt that having cancer wasn't all that terrifying anymore.

To have lived in this world and been fiercely loved by so many people... it made everything worth it.

She didn't follow Arthur back to Rossi County.

Instead, she returned to the Foster residence and asked her professor to help her set up a meeting with Astra Technologies.

The next time she saw Ethan was a few days later, sitting inside Harvey's law firm.

She sat side-by-side with Ethan, the freshly printed divorce agreement resting on the desk before them.

She flipped through the terms. Exactly as she had requested, Ethan had included a cash settlement clause—but he had multiplied the amount she asked for several times over.

Doing the math, almost a decade of longing and three years of living under the same roof felt like nothing more than an overly realistic dream.
