The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 54

Mr. Chambers flashed a fearful smile and turned to Alaina. "Mr. Summers is a very busy man. He should take priority. I'll reach out to you another time." With that, he spun around and practically fled.

Alaina frowned. Watching Mr. Chambers treat them like a plague, she finally understood the old saying about ordinary citizens never challenging the wealthy, and the wealthy never crossing the powerful.

Zachary gestured for her to enter again, wearing a perfectly polite, practiced smile.

She sucked in a sharp breath, walked around to the other side, and slid into the back seat.

The moment the door clicked shut, a crisp, masculine scent enveloped her.

Realizing it was coming from Silas, she instinctively scooted closer to the window to put as much distance between them as possible. She sat with her spine ramrod straight, her fingers gripping the clutch on her lap like a lifeline.

She didn't dare spare him a single glance, stiffly staring out at the blur of passing city lights.

Even though the man beside her hadn't said a word, she found herself rationing her breaths, terrified of shattering the fragile silence inside the cabin.

A second later, she shifted her clutch to her side, slipped her hand inside, and stealthily dialed 911 on her screen, keeping her finger hovering right over the call button just in case.

Silas sat with his long legs casually crossed, one hand resting lazily on his knee. His long fingers were slightly curled, while his watch caught glints of streetlights.

He turned his head, his gaze landing lightly on her tense profile. "Are you that terrified of me?" he asked, his voice a low rumble.

Alaina's heart skipped a beat, the tips of her ears burning hot. Keeping her eyes glued to the flowing traffic lights, she stammered out a few syllables before finally managing, "No..."

The faintest, almost imperceptible smirk tugged at the corner of Silas's mouth. "Take a deep breath and calm down," he said with careless ease. "Otherwise, when dispatch answers, you'll be stuttering too much to explain the emergency."

Her brow furrowed, and she whipped her head around to look at him, stunned by his sheer arrogance.

Was there truly nothing in this world that scared him?
