The CEO’s Regret My Ex-Wife is a Tech Goddess novel Chapter 65

Silas locked eyes with her, his demeanor so composed it bordered on ruthless. His lips parted slightly as he spoke, "I need a wife in name only to fend off pressure from my superiors."

"Two years. You name your terms."

...

Alaina furrowed her brow in utter disbelief, certain she had misheard.

"A contract marriage," Silas clarified, his face impassive. He enunciated each word with clinical precision, as if negotiating a standard corporate merger. "To the outside world, we will be husband and wife. Behind closed doors, we stay out of each other's business. Once the two years are up, we part ways, completely even."

She let out a hollow laugh. As if the disastrous mix-up at the matchmaking meeting wasn't enough, now he wanted to use her for his own amusement.

Suppressing the flare of anger in her chest, she asked, "Why come to me? A man of your status must have a never-ending line of women willing to take that deal."

Silas's gaze remained direct and chillingly pragmatic. "Living people are complicated. Partnering with you is efficient."

It was a painfully blunt, almost cruel statement.

Alaina glared at him, speechless. It felt like a knife plunging straight into her chest, and her eyes immediately stung with angry tears.

"Do you possess even a shred of human empathy?" she demanded. "Just because my luck ran out and I could drop dead at any moment, does that mean I deserve to be used and discarded over and over again? What, you see a dying woman and think she's an easy target?"

Silas looked at her, his eyes devoid of pity, and replied in a frigid tone, "Everyone dies. Will people's sympathy keep you alive?"

Alaina: "..."

Silas: "Knowing exactly how much time you have left is a privilege, in my opinion."

Alaina: "..."

Silas: "You should consider yourself lucky that you still hold some value before you die. Most people spend their entire lives simply existing."

Alaina's chest ached with a suffocating tightness. She drew in a sharp breath and forced a bitter smile. "So, according to your logic, since I'm going to die anyway, I might as well squeeze out every last drop of usefulness, right?"

Unmoved, Silas continued, "Partnering with me is mutually beneficial. I won't be taking advantage of you for nothing."

Alaina scoffed. "What, are we negotiating a price now? Do you honestly think I can take your money to the grave with me?"

"You don't need money. But you do need someone to handle your mess," Silas stated.

"Aside from the smart-tech medical division, the stability of the wellness center is the bedrock of the Harrington family's future for the next fifty years. Ethan Harrington's personal feelings will never trump corporate interests. Right now, what you need to escape isn't just a marriage—it's a shark tank."
