"Five years ago, the day of the Technology Progress Awards... right? On the cherry blossom avenue at my college, wasn't it?"
Alaina's eyes sparkled with anticipation as she stared unblinkingly at the man before her.
Silas's eyes remained completely flat. "Do you know how to knock?"
Alaina flinched, feeling as if she had been doused with a bucket of ice water, snapping her awake. Her shock and eagerness vanished instantly.
Only then did she realize that Silas was wearing a smoke-gray bathrobe.
His dark, wet hair hung in messy strands, droplets clinging to the ends before rolling slowly down the muscular curve of his neck and disappearing into the depths of his collar. He had clearly just stepped out of the shower.
Through the loosely open collar, his sharply defined collarbones were visible, his skin glowing with a faint, moist sheen from the bath.
The loose fabric accentuated the broad, clean lines of his shoulders and back, while the warm steam, mingled with his subtle, crisp scent, lingered around him.
The sight was undeniably gorgeous, radiating a fatal magnetism that rooted her to the spot, her mind running wild beyond her control.
Silas's eyes held a trace of post-shower languor. "Done looking?"
"I'm... sorry," she stammered, hastily dropping her gaze. Her eyes darted around in panic, desperately wishing she could turn and flee this awkward scene.
Suddenly, Silas's long arm shot out, pulling her firmly into his chest with an undeniable strength.
Caught completely off guard, Alaina's eyes went wide.
Silas lowered his head, his lips grazing her ear as he murmured, "Don't move."
Pressing his palm gently against her back, he cast a cool glance out the window, his gaze darkening. "Rosemary installed a thermal imaging camera across the way today. I'm going to carry you over there in a second. If she asks later, just say we were spending quality time together."
Hearing this, Alaina nodded in embarrassment, her breathing growing shallow and erratic.
The warm heat of his body radiated through the thin robe, intertwining with his crisp scent and lingering teasingly near her nose.
