For a few seconds, everyone in the room just stared at each other, not sure if they’d heard right. They exchanged uncertain looks, some almost hoping someone would say this was all a misunderstanding.
“Wait, did I really hear that? Did she just say she’s going to be number one at Vantage Point University?”
“Yep. That’s exactly what she said.”
Even Magee’s expression turned stiff. He couldn’t believe Rebecca could be so clueless about her own limits.
Wade had come all the way here to support her, and instead of taking the win and backing down, Rebecca was actually doubling down and turning this into a bigger deal. Did she want to be the campus laughingstock?
Felice stared at Rebecca, still trying to process what she’d heard. Sure, Rebecca’s song earlier was impressive, but writing music didn’t mean she could magically ace all her other classes, too. If her grades weren’t absolutely terrible, her last school wouldn’t have forced her to drop out. Felice really didn’t get it.
“Rebecca, are you seriously going through with this bet? Aren’t you scared you’ll just embarrass yourself too much to even stay at Vantage Point if you lose?”
Wade couldn’t hide his surprise either. Bekki never cared about this kind of recognition before. Why was she suddenly so stubborn?
Rebecca barely looked up, her voice casual, almost bored. “Isn’t that what you all want? Why’s nobody saying anything? What, are you too scared to take me up on it?”
Everyone had hesitated, worried that going up against her would be too easy, that it wouldn’t be a fair fight. But now, seeing how much Rebecca seemed to be asking for trouble, the students who’d spoken earlier all jumped up to take the bet.
“I’ll do it. If you actually get first place, I’ll take myself out of Class A, no problem.”
“Count me in, too. Rebecca, you brought this on yourself, so don’t turn around and whine that we bullied you if you lose. Let’s put this down in writing so nobody can back out.”
Rebecca smirked, one side of her mouth lifted in a sneer. “Sure. That goes for all of you, too.”
