The Coma Prince’s Fiancée novel Chapter 14

Paulina’s lips curved into a subtle smile.

When Rebecca had warned her, Paulina thought the girl might actually be sharp, maybe even worth keeping an eye on. Who would have guessed Rebecca would turn out to be so clueless?

Better than Robin Wilson at medicine? Please. Paulina couldn’t decide if that was ignorance or just wild confidence.

“I heard there’s an underground auction in Harrisburg next week,” Paulina said lightly. “They’re selling something called Ambrosia Vitae—an underground biotech compound people swear can “reset” the body. Every time, all the rich and powerful show up and try to get their hands on it. Maybe it could help with Jennifer’s illness too.”

Sophia’s eyes immediately lit up. “Seriously? You think it might actually work?”

Paulina kept her answer vague. “Rumor has it, even the White family bought some before. It should be worth trying.”

“Then let’s go to Harrisburg in a couple of days,” Sophia blurted out, almost bouncing with impatience. “Paulina, you have to come with me.”

Paulina hesitated. “But those private auctions have limited spots. For our family it wouldn’t be hard to get in... but honestly, it might look bad. And since you just managed to tick Rebecca off, my mom may not be super willing to help.”

Sophia snorted. “Forget Madonna. I’ll ask Grandpa and Norris. We can have Norris take us. Easy.”

Paulina’s eyes flickered, but her voice stayed gentle. “Alright.”

In Rebecca’s room, Madonna sat quietly beside her on the bed, her tone soft and encouraging.

She paused, her eyes shining with sadness. “But after the fire was out and the ruins cleared, there weren’t any remains. We thought maybe someone rescued you kids, but no one ever brought you back, no matter how long we waited or searched. We just never found you…”

Much later, under a sky barely dotted with stars, Rebecca lay outside in a rocking chair, trying to cool off. Madonna’s words echoed in her mind.

“Paulina was the only one returned after that night, but nobody ever found her parents. We felt sorry for her, so we brought her home. All this time, your dad and I never thought about replacing you with anyone else, and we never stopped hoping to find you…”

“And Rebecca, there’s something else strange. After the Jameses adopted you, they changed your DNA records and your age. If they hadn’t hidden it on purpose, how else could it have taken so long for us to find you?”

Rebecca’s eyes turned distant as she whispered to herself, “The Jameses…”
