Third floor.
Rebecca glanced up and spotted Suite V08 just ahead. She paused and pulled out the Bluetooth earpiece she’d brought with her.
“I’m not going in with you. Keep the call connected, and I’ll give you a heads-up if you need it.”
Laura took the earpiece, slipping it on. She hesitated. “Really, you’re not coming? There’s nothing shady about your identity. Why does it have to be so secret?”
“It’s just easier this way. We’ll talk about it another time,” Rebecca replied lightly. She put in her own earpiece, tested the volume, then gave Laura a casual wave. “Go on, don’t make anyone wait.”
Laura could only shake her head and smile. The heir to the White Group was notorious for keeping people waiting, not the other way around. There was no way he’d ever show up early just to meet her.
But as she pushed open the door and saw Norris seated in his wheelchair, posture straight and composed, Laura froze for a split second. Under her breath, she had to admit Rebecca had called it.
“Mr. White, I’m Laura. I’m sorry I made you wait. Since this is our first meeting, I really hope you didn’t wait too long.”
Norris’s gaze was dark and unreadable. He nodded politely. “Not at all. I arrived early. Please, have a seat.”
Laura had heard rumors about Norris before. She knew he had health issues, and she didn’t want to slip up on her first impression. Quietly, she sat down in the seat closest to her.
Norris noticed she’d chosen the chair across from him and hadn’t tried to cozy up or use the situation to get closer. The chill in his eyes seemed to thaw just a little.
A moment later, he glanced at Aaron.
Aaron got the signal right away. He pulled out a check from his bag, already filled out, and placed it in front of Laura.
“Laura.” Norris’s voice was calm, clear, steady. “Let me get straight to the point. I’m very serious about buying BLUE. This is my final offer.”
Laura didn’t pick up the check. She glanced down at the amount.
In another private room, Rebecca was watching Norris through a video feed on her phone. Her clear eyes narrowed thoughtfully.
So, the man who looked like he was made of ice actually cared about his family? That was unexpected.
Laura didn’t get a reply, so she pushed for one.
Babe, let’s take the deal. BLUE is worth fifty million, at most. This guy’s throwing out eighty million like it’s nothing. We’d be crazy not to sell. I’ll help you find even better materials and we can make something new, okay?
Norris, who always seemed to notice every detail, caught the slight change in Laura’s expression and let his eyes drift toward the ear she was covering with her hand.
Who was she talking to?
Rebecca’s pale fingers curled around the edge of her phone. She thought for a moment, then finally spoke softly into the earpiece.
