The next second, Wade stormed away from his seat, pointing a furious finger right at Gavin. He looked ready to slap the boy into next week.
"You have the absolute nerve to claim my girl's original composition as your own?! You must have a death wish!"
"What?!"
Jaws dropped across the room.
Down in the lobby, the crowd exploded.
"Wait, did I hear that right? What did the president just say? His girl wrote it?!"
"Last I checked, the president only has a son and a grandson! Since when does he have a 'girl'?!"
"'My girl' sounds so affectionate. Who on earth is lucky enough to get called that by the president?!"
Magee Clark couldn't hold back and stood up abruptly. The others might not know who "my girl" was, but he certainly did.
She wasn't just a girl. She was a prodigy who had swept multiple international music awards at a young age and was the first person ever to hold a solo concert at The Palladium. An absolute genius!
It was a shame his great-uncle kept her so well hidden. Magee had never even met her.
When Paulina heard the phrase "my girl," her nerves instantly frayed. She instinctively looked at Rebecca. So far, Rebecca was the only person who had ever made the president smile upon their first meeting.
"Mr. President, please calm down!" Ablitt's scalp tingled with terror. Seeing Wade about to throw hands in a formal setting was a nightmare. He rushed to intervene.
Wade shoved him aside. "My girl won three prestigious international music awards before she even came of age! She held a solo concert at The Palladium! She is a once-in-a-generation genius. She composed this exact piece, purely as an improvisation, while serving as a guest judge at the Bach International Music Competition! And I was sitting right there in the audience when she did it!"
This arrogant little punk from the Michel family had the audacity to run a scam right under his nose!
No wonder she texted him. She had recognized her own work instantly. Wade was annoyed at himself—he had been there, yet he hadn't recognized it until Garnett played the slowed-down version.
Wade's words hit the room like a nuclear bomb.
