Inside Harrisburg’s most high-end hotel.
As soon as Aaron’s call came in, Sophia shot up from the couch, furious. “What? He said no? Why on earth would he refuse? Did you even tell him it was the Russells who wanted the Ambrosia Vitae? This is the opportunity of a lifetime, his best chance to get rich overnight. Why would he ever turn that down?”
Aaron’s voice stayed professionally flat. “Sophia, I passed your message along exactly like you asked, but the buyer refused. There’s really nothing I can do. Please don’t take your frustration out on me.”
Sophia started pacing the living room, fuming. “No way. You must not have made it clear. Otherwise, he’d never say no. Just give me his number. I’ll talk to him myself.”
“I’m sorry, Sophia. The client’s contact info is confidential. I can’t give it out, and if you want it, you’ll have to find it on your own.”
The second she heard that, Sophia cursed and hurled her phone to the floor.
Paulina was there with her. She hadn’t heard the details, but from Sophia’s reaction, she could pretty much guess what just happened.
Paulina got up and tried to calm the storm. “Sophia, don’t work yourself up. Ambrosia Vitae isn’t something you can find just by throwing money around. Whoever got it is probably desperate for it and won’t give it up so easily. What we need to know is why he wants it. Figure that out, and maybe we can find a way in.”
“Of course I know that. But Aaron refuses to tell me anything, just going on about client privacy. Honestly, I think he’s just slacking off. Never mind, I’ll talk to Norris. I’ll make sure Aaron gets replaced.”
Paulina gently grabbed her arm. “Don’t do something rash. Aaron’s right. Even if you complain to Mr. White, he might not cooperate.”
Sophia collapsed back on the sofa, the anger and panic twisting her face. “So nothing works, and we’re just supposed to do nothing? You all want me to watch my mom die? Is that it?”
Paulina’s face tightened. These past couple days, she’d been cleaning up after Sophia’s drama, trying to make things better, and instead of being thanked, she was getting dumped on.
