The Whites were Harrisburg’s most powerful family, so of course their home was off-limits to pretty much everyone. Rebecca’s car only got through after passing layer after layer of security, each checkpoint more intimidating than the last.
As soon as they entered, a sprawling garden spread out before them, with beautiful old architecture and a calm, elegant atmosphere. Rebecca glanced out and couldn’t help but think, Norris actually has pretty good taste.
Paulina was blown away by the wealth on display. In the middle of Harrisburg, where land was priceless, the Whites owned an estate that looked like it belonged in a movie. She could barely believe it was real.
Sophia noticed Rebecca looking around and immediately straightened, trying to look superior, her face practically glowing with pride.
“Rebecca, honestly, the way you gawk makes our family look bad. Haven’t you seen anything like this before?” She leaned in, lowering her voice like she was revealing a secret. “This whole garden was designed by Norris himself, you know. He said he was inspired by a song Paulina played. Even my grandpa says that Norris and Paulina are just perfect together.”
“Sophia, where did you even hear that? I’ve never heard anything about it.” Paulina was confused, but the thought of the handsome Norris made her heart race. She could feel her cheeks warming up and tried not to let it show.
Sophia just waved her off. “My mom heard it from my grandpa, so it’s true. And seriously, every time Norris visited us, didn’t he always bring you a present? You’re clearly the best-looking, smartest one in the family. Nobody from a tiny family somewhere else could ever compare.”
Paulina smiled, but there was a hint of exasperation in her voice. “Sophia, that’s enough. Rebecca just got back, and she’s talented too. Last time she played piano, our parents wouldn’t stop complimenting her.”
