The Coma Prince’s Fiancée novel Chapter 50

“Honestly, all you had to do was call yourself Mr. White’s savior and people just lined up to throw money at you. And not just a little—huge amounts. If it were me, I might give in to the temptation too.”

Harriet realized he was making fun of her. Her face tightened in anger, but she didn’t dare say a word.

Shirley saw there was no way her fake illness was going to work, so she stopped pretending. She rushed over to Norris, looking frail, and tried to grab his leg.

Norris sensed her coming and smoothly rolled his wheelchair back, keeping well out of her reach.

Steven and Ableson instantly flanked him, putting themselves between Shirley and Norris, making sure she couldn’t get close.

Shirley’s face twisted with frustration, but she quickly forced herself to calm down and tried to explain quietly.

“Mr. White, it’s true, my mother and I have done some things we’re not proud of. But you have to understand, the James family has been struggling for the past year. Money has been tight, and I really didn’t have any choice. I agreed to help my dad… And when Ms. Adams and Ms. Russell came to me, I was scared that if I said no, they’d turn against the family. I thought I could agree at first, then find a chance to explain everything to you later…”

She was playing the victim, and maybe that would have worked in the past. But Norris and the others had already seen through her, and no one was buying it.

Norris didn’t even bother dignifying her lies with a response. Steven looked like he was about to say something, but Rebecca beat him to it, her voice steady and cool.

“Stop dragging everyone else down with your stupidity. It doesn’t matter what you say—there’s too much proof.”

Shirley was just about to snap back, but that was when Aaron walked in.

Harriet and Shirley had never cared about hiding what they did, so it hadn’t been hard at all to get the whole story.

“Mr. White, I’ve checked everything. Just in the last two weeks, the James family used the White Group name to partner up with nearly half the companies in Harrisburg. A lot of those businesses, hoping to get in closer with the White Group through the Jameses, handed over all kinds of expensive paintings and luxury gifts in secret. Tonight’s twenty million is barely even a drop in the bucket.”

Twenty million. A drop in the bucket.

That number was enough to shock anyone.
