The Coma Prince’s Fiancée novel Chapter 54

Paulina clenched her fists at her sides, her frustration clear as she listened to him sing Rebecca’s praises.

Sensing the tension, Madonna stepped in to smooth things over. “Alright, that’s enough. The girls have had plenty of time to think about what happened on the way over here. Nothing serious happened to the Whites or the Russells, so let’s just move past this.”

But Fabian wasn’t willing to let it go. “Even if nothing major happened, what they did goes against the Russells’ family rules. They need to face the consequences. Paulina and Sophia will spend three days in the Ancestral Hall to reflect. No visitors, unless I say so.”

That set Jennifer off immediately. “Fabian, that’s not fair. If you want to talk about responsibility, Rebecca should take the blame for all of this.”

She glared at Rebecca. “Sophia told me that if Rebecca had just lent her the money, someone else wouldn’t have bought the Ambrosia Vitae and we wouldn’t be in this mess. I told you already, she’s ungrateful and impossible to please. You and Madonna didn’t believe me. If she can treat me like this now, what makes you think she won’t turn on the rest of you?”

Madonna jumped in to defend her daughter. “I don’t believe that for a second. My daughter would never do something like that without a reason.”

Jennifer, nearly fuming, shot back, “If that’s true, then why hasn’t she said a single word through all of this? Sounds to me like she’s hiding something and can’t even explain herself.”

Rebecca finally looked up, her eyes cold and sharp, and a mocking smile playing on her lips. “You’re really stretching here. Why not blame me for all of history while you’re at it? You’re upset I didn’t lend your daughter money? That’s a good one. Maybe you should blame yourself? If you hadn’t only given her twenty million, maybe she would’ve been able to buy that precious Ambrosia Vitae after all.”

Jennifer refused to back down. “What are you talking about? Twenty million isn’t enough?”

Rebecca shrugged. “Is it? Then where’s the Ambrosia Vitae? Funny how when your daughter doesn’t need me, she tells everyone I’m just the maid. The second she does, she starts talking about family and expects me to hand over my card like it’s nothing.

“And you? You’re calling me ungrateful just because I didn’t chip in? Did you ever raise me? No? Then what gives you the right to guilt trip me? If you’re going to lecture me about “family,” at least try not to embarrass yourself while you do it.”

Jennifer’s face turned a nasty shade. “You—”

“Rebecca!” Sophia snapped, pointing an accusing finger. “Don’t take it too far.”

Rebecca stared back, icy and unflinching. “Too far? I’m just telling the truth, aren’t I?”

Fabian’s voice cut through, hard and cold. “Sophia, did you really tell people your sister was just a maid?”
