The Coma Prince’s Fiancée novel Chapter 74

Lady.M took off, made a name for itself, and kept growing. There were obstacles, sure, but honestly, things turned out smoother than Laura could have hoped for.

A few years slipped by in the blink of an eye. When Laura thought back to the first time she met Rebecca, it almost felt unreal, as if it had been a dream.

Rebecca definitely didn’t need the money these days, so it was a mystery why she was still pulling all-nighters taking gaming gigs on the side.

Seeing Laura’s confused look, Rebecca didn’t bother explaining herself. She just smiled, “Yeah, the games are fun.”

Laura nearly lost it—she was speechless at how nonchalant Rebecca was.

“No, seriously. You can’t earn more gaming than you do designing, and you don’t need money now, so why waste your time like that? You should be using your talent, not burning it on games. I want designs from you every month, got it? And don’t forget the draft you owed Elaine, I want that in a week, or you’re in trouble!”

Most people would have backed down in the face of Laura’s tough attitude.

Rebecca wasn’t most people. She lazily ran her fingers through her hair, settled deeper into the sofa, and sipped her fruit tea like Laura’s lecture was background noise.

“Laura, I’m about to start school. I really don’t have the time right now.”

“School?” Laura was caught off guard. It took her a few seconds to remember Rebecca was only eighteen—just the right age to enroll.

You could hardly blame her. Rebecca was so gifted and always coming and going. It was easy to forget she’d just barely grown up.

Laura couldn’t argue with that excuse.

“School’s important. I guess I can let you update your work a little slower. But you need to be straight with me about something. Weren’t you raised by the James family? How did you end up with the Russells?”

Rebecca knew Laura came from a well-known family herself, so the truth about her identity wouldn’t stay hidden for long. She was fine with it either way. Lying to Laura was never the plan.

“I’m the Russells’ biological daughter. They only just found me. But keep that under wraps for now, okay?”

Laura’s eyes widened. “You’re the one the Russells searched for all these years?”

What a bombshell.

“It’s not that.” Irvin straightened up, his eyes studying her. “Rebecca, you still haven’t answered my question.”

She could see he was being serious, so she answered, cool as ever. “Laura wanted me to be Lady.M’s spokesperson. I said no.”

Irvin paused, a little caught off guard. “That’s it?”

“What else do you think it would be? Did you think Laura and I had something going on?” Rebecca gave a little shrug.

Honestly, Irvin had wondered, since Laura seemed way too friendly for them to be strangers. But Rebecca looked so unbothered, it made him doubt himself.

He realized he might have come on a little strong and didn’t want to upset her.

“I was probably just overthinking. Don’t be mad. Let’s go, Mom’s still waiting.” He patted her shoulder.

Rebecca could tell he wasn’t totally convinced, but she didn’t mind. As long as it didn’t cross any lines, it wasn’t worth worrying about.
