Rebecca’s first day at Vantage Point University came way faster than she expected. Irvin was coming too—he had a meeting with President Wade. So, all three siblings piled into the car together.
When it was time to say goodbye, Madonna could hardly let go. She squeezed Rebecca’s hand like she wanted to keep her home by force. “Rebecca, Cabinda is so close to Harrisburg. If you’re ever feeling overwhelmed… or something just doesn’t feel right, you come home. Don’t bottle it up, okay?”
Rebecca managed a small, polite nod. “Okay, Mom.”
Fabian was just as reluctant to let her go, though you’d never know it from his face. He kept his voice soft and steady as he spoke to her. “If anything comes up, don’t try to handle it on your own. Your mom and I are here for you. And when you come back next time, both of your other brothers should be home too. We’ll throw you a proper welcome party… make everything official.”
Rebecca just nodded again with a little “Okay.”
Fabian glanced over at Paulina and his tone turned gentle. “Paulina, same goes for you. If you need anything at all, you tell us, alright?”
Paulina offered a sweet smile. “I will, Dad.”
But then Fabian’s gaze landed on Irvin. All warmth vanished from his expression. “Hey, knucklehead. Watch out for your sisters. That’s an order.”
Irvin just laughed, unable to help himself. “You got it, Dad.”
After that, they all set off, and the car carried them toward campus.

At the university, the president’s office was almost unrecognizable from its usual buttoned-up self. It was pure chaos.
“Quick, give me your opinion. Tie or bow tie?” The president, Wade, his silver hair neatly styled, stood ramrod straight in front of a floor-length mirror. He kept swapping a tie and then a bow tie under his collar, brow furrowed in concentration.
