Lily could barely hide her frustration as Wade pushed this whole mess onto her. She was just days away from celebrating her two-year anniversary as the head teacher for Class A, something she’d worked hard for and knew would be a huge boost for her career. According to the unspoken rules at Vantage Point University, once her class graduated she’d qualify to run for dean of a branch. There was no way she was going to let anyone or anything threaten her shot at that future.
Still, she didn’t want to get on Wade’s bad side, at least not right now. So she tried to find some middle ground. “Wade, even if you think this new girl’s got potential, she just isn’t ready to fit in with Class A. Apex Academy’s next round of exams is coming up. If she’s as good as you say, let her take the test. If she passes, she can join the class. That way it’s fair, right?”
Wade did his best to hide his disagreement. Bekki was already miles ahead of everyone her age. If she wanted, she could probably run this school without breaking a sweat. Making her prove herself with a test just to join Class A seemed pointless and kind of insulting, honestly. Plus, if the other teachers caught wind of it, they’d probably be lining up to try and steal her away.
But Lily had a point. Bekki still needed to get along with other students. If she couldn’t fit in, it wouldn’t help her either. After a pause, Wade turned to Rebecca and let her decide for herself. “Do you want to take the exam?”
Rebecca hadn’t even wanted to come to Vantage Point University in the first place. She was only here to keep her parents off her back. If she made a scene and left now, her parents would just find another school to force her into. No matter what she did, trouble seemed to follow. Staying with Wade actually sounded the easiest.
“I don’t mind,” she said, sounding completely relaxed.
Wade nodded once she agreed. “Alright then. That’s how we’ll do it.”
Lily folded her arms, her lips twisting into a smirk. “I’ll be looking forward to this newcomer’s results.” She had the power since she was the one writing the exam questions, and she wasn’t afraid to make life difficult for the new girl. Especially since, as far as Lily was concerned, Rebecca was nothing but a dropout from some second-rate school.
Rebecca could see right through Lily’s scheming and just shrugged. “If I get first place, shouldn’t I get some kind of reward?”
