The Coma Prince’s Fiancée novel Chapter 99

Rebecca heard their accusations as she set her tray on the table. Her eyes narrowed, sharp and cold, with a hint of amusement.

“Oh yeah? Then why don’t you tell me how I actually got into this school?”

The group fell silent, clearly thrown off by her unexpected response.

The skinny guy in the middle wasn’t ready to back down though. He gave her a smug look. “You’re just some loser who couldn’t even graduate from a no-name school. If it weren’t for your sketchy relationship with Wade, you’d never have gotten into Vantage Point.”

He shot a look at the two friends flanking him, like he expected backup.

But saying that kind of thing out loud was risky. Sure, people gossiped in private, but straight-up calling out Wade in front of everyone... that was dangerous territory. If word got out, nobody could predict the fallout.

Even though the other two clearly didn’t like Rebecca either, they kept their heads down and stayed quiet.

Rebecca’s eyes got icy. “Who told you I have anything inappropriate going on with Wade?”

The skinny guy just snorted. “Oh, come on. Everyone at Vantage Point knows about you and Wade. It’s obvious. Why do you act like it’s some big secret?”

Rebecca had always kept a low profile. Still, somehow drama found her anyway.

She’d never been the type to just stand there and take it. She scanned all the faces pointed her way. Her gaze was cold and powerful, and suddenly nobody wanted to look her in the eye.

“So let me clear things up,” she said.

“I’ve known Wade for years. He’s someone I respect, nothing more. Our relationship is completely above board. And if I hear anybody spreading lies about us again, I won’t hesitate to take legal action.”

The skinny guy faltered, for a second clearly intimidated. But with everyone watching, being called out by a girl didn’t exactly do his ego any favors. So he tried again.

A glimmer of satisfaction flashed in Paulina’s eyes, quickly replaced by a mask of concern. “It looks like Rebecca’s in trouble,” she said. “I’ll go see if I can help her.”

Magee held her arm. “Don’t go.” His eyes didn’t leave Rebecca, standing alone in the middle of the cafeteria. She looked small, but her back was straight and she didn’t seem scared at all. Somehow, everyone around her shrank beneath her presence.

She’s too arrogant for her own good, Magee thought. Maybe getting knocked down a few pegs will do her good.

Paulina assumed Magee was just worried about her. She nodded softly, still staring at Rebecca with concern in her eyes. “But Rebecca just got here. She doesn’t know anyone. I’m worried something will happen to her.”

A few people nearby seemed touched by Paulina’s kindness, and they started chatting.

“Paulina, you’re too nice. She probably doesn’t even care about you. She hasn’t shown up to class since she arrived and even dragged you into that thing with Lily. She’s not worth your help.”

“Seriously. She came from some tiny backwater town, and having you bring her to school was already the biggest thing to ever happen to her. But then she ditched you to go chase after Wade. She’s trouble. You should keep your distance before she drags you down with her.”
