The Day I Quit Him
Chapter 1
*Ms. Lopez, your husband is cheating on you,”
Autumn Lopez thought it was a prank, but a flood of photos immediately swamped her phone.
In the photos, Mars Wright and her sister, Lydia Lopez, were all over each other, their gazes smoldering.
Kissing passionately in the car she’d taken out a loan for, embracing at the very top of a Ferris wheel, holding hands under the stars at Joshua Tree–a place she’d always dreamed of visiting.
A tremor shot through Autumn. Could Mars really be cheating on me?
But then she remembered their ten–year relationship, all the little things Mars had done for her, and she quickly pushed the suspicion away.
With today’s technology, it’d be a piece of cake to Photoshop a few pictures of a man cheating.
Today was Cloudbreak Corporation’s ninth anniversary. Maybe someone was just trying to stir up trouble.
Autumn stopped overthinking and drove to the office.
She had to get there before 3 p.m. to do a final check of the venue and make sure the evening’s gala went off without a hitch.
The traffic was light, but her mind was dazed by the whole thing.
Half an hour later, Autumn arrived at Cloudbreak Corporation and headed straight for Mars’s office.
But just as she reached out to push the door open, she heard a woman’s low moans from inside, followed by a man’s heated breaths.
“Mars, you’re so good… my body feels like jelly… I know it’s wrong, sharing you with my sister, but I’m just so addicted to you.”
“If my dear sister found out the baby in her
holly wasn’t your IVF baby, but ours, you think she’d kill me?”
Autumn stumbled, nearly collapsing to the floor.
Her hand flew to her stomach. The precious life she had struggled so hard to conceive… was her husband’s and her sister’s?
The heartbreaking conversation continued.
“She loves me,” Mars’s voice was confident, dripping with contempt. “If she dares to make a scene, I’ll divorce her and make her kneel at your feet to beg for your forgiveness.”
Chapter 1
“But that won’t happen. Aren’t you afraid of the pain of childbirth? Once Autumn delivers the baby for you, I’ll buy out the bankrupt Lopez Group and give it to you as a wedding gift. Then, in the entire Lopez family, you’ll be the only one who matters. The rest of them won’t even be worthy of kneeling by your side.”
His familiar voice was like a devil’s whisper, each word exploding in her ears.
She remembered their wedding night. A typhoon had hit, and rain was pouring down. Lydia had called, crying that she’d sprained her ankle and couldn’t get home alone. Mars had rushed out to get her but ended up in a car accident.
On the brink of death, and even after he woke up, all he did was ask if Lydia was okay.
At the time, she’d thought he was just being protective of her sister because he loved her. Now she knew he had only ever loved Lydia.
The obscene sounds from inside grew louder. Without even opening the door, Autumn could picture how heated things were between them.
The words of those two bastards were like a series of lightning strikes, shattering Autumn’s faith and commitment to her
marriage.
With Cloudbreak Corporation’s current power, crushing the Lopez Group would be as easy as squashing an ant.
No wonder the Lopez Group had been doing worse and worse.
Autumn let out a self–deprecating laugh.
Ten years together, a three–year marriage.
