The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 127

**Chasing Light, Finding Peace – by Rohan Verma**

**Chapter 127**

Lydia Lopez had always looked at Mars through a lens tainted by her own biases, a judgment deeply rooted in the glaring disparity of their backgrounds. Her life had been a tapestry woven from threads of privilege, where opulence was not merely a desire but a birthright. In stark contrast, Mars emerged from modest beginnings, a reality that had always cast a long shadow over his worth in her eyes.

To Lydia, he was nothing more than a fleeting distraction, a pretty face that lacked the depth she craved. What value did a man hold if he couldn’t adorn her life with luxurious gifts or elevate her status? She envisioned a partner who could match her ambitions, someone who would enhance her life rather than merely fill it with superficial admiration.

But fate has a way of turning the tables. When news broke that Mars had unexpectedly come into a substantial fortune, Lydia’s perspective shifted dramatically. No longer was he the inconsequential figure she had dismissed; he was now a man of means, and suddenly, she found herself inexplicably drawn to him, believing that his newfound wealth signaled a genuine interest in her. It was a naive assumption, one that conflated material change with character transformation.

However, the shimmering illusion was destined to shatter. In a moment of confrontation, Lydia discovered that Mars was still the same flawed man she had once judged so harshly. The chaos of their relationship became painfully evident when, in a drunken stupor, he mistook her for Autumn, the woman he truly loved. Lydia’s heart raced with frustration as she witnessed the vulnerability in Mars, the raw pain he expressed over his lost relationship—a side of him she had never acknowledged before.

“Why are you doing this to yourself, Mars?” she blurted out, her voice tinged with anger and concern. It was a question that hung in the air, heavy with unspoken emotions.

Mars, lost in his own struggles, seemed oblivious to the turmoil swirling around them. “Autumn,” he murmured, his voice slurred with alcohol, “I’ve messed up so badly…”

Lydia’s frustration boiled over, igniting a fire within her. “You’re still the same man who blamed me for everything! Do you even realize how much you’ve hurt those around you?”

His eyes, clouded with the effects of the drink, slowly opened. Confusion flickered across his face as he squinted at her. “Autumn? Is that you?”

The scent of alcohol clung to him like a shroud, making Lydia’s stomach churn. “No, it’s Lydia!” she corrected, her voice rising in urgency. “Get a grip, Mars! You need to wake up!”

He groaned, irritation flashing across his features as he tried to dismiss her. “Just be quiet!”

“Be quiet? You’re telling me to be quiet when you’re drowning in your own mess?” Lydia shot back, her anger morphing into a desperate plea. “Look at yourself! You’re lost!”

With a reluctant groan, he rubbed his face, finally managing to pry his bleary eyes open. “Autumn? I thought you left…”

His drunken haze had turned their confrontation into a surreal nightmare. As he lunged forward, wrapping his arms around her, Lydia felt the weight of his desperation. “Let go of me!” she cried, struggling against his grip.

“Autumn, I’ve been so lonely since you moved out. The house is a disaster, and I can’t even cook for myself anymore,” he lamented, his words slurring together in a pitiful confession. “I miss you… I just want things to go back to how they were.”

Tears threatened to spill from Lydia’s eyes as she watched him unravel. “You’re not even thinking about what you’re saying, are you?”

He continued, oblivious to her presence, “I promise I’ll do better. I’ll be a good husband. I’ll take care of our baby.”

The mention of the baby struck a chord within her, igniting a pang of jealousy. She had never realized just how significant Autumn was in Mars’s life. “This is all just a game to you, isn’t it?” she thought bitterly, watching him wallow in his self-pity.

“Autumn, please don’t ignore me…” he murmured, his vulnerability laid bare.
