The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 198

**TITLE: Chasing Light, Finding Peace by Rohan Verma**

*Yeah. That was all me.*

*Everything he’d done, he’d done himself.*

*No one had ever forced him.*

A heavy weight settled in my chest as I grappled with the reality of my situation. Deep inside, I felt a sharp pang of regret—so why did I let the first words that escaped my lips turn into a pointed accusation?

*I’m the last person here with any right to blame someone else, aren’t I?*

If Mars hadn’t been sneaking around with Lydia behind Autumn’s back, he wouldn’t be standing there, paralyzed by fear and guilt.

He wouldn’t have faced the crippling performance issues that had left him a shell of his former self.

And without those issues, he wouldn’t have felt the need to provoke Lydia, trying to regain some semblance of power.

Lydia wouldn’t have been hurt.

If Lydia hadn’t been hurt, she wouldn’t have ended up with her face marred, a permanent reminder of the chaos that had ensued.

Now, Lydia was like a specter haunting him, a vengeful presence that wouldn’t let him rest.

“I know I was wrong…”

Mars muttered to himself, his voice barely above a whisper, “I really know I was wrong…”

Hugo and Myers, standing a few feet away, felt no compassion for their son.

Their hearts were hardened, and compassion had its limits.

If only Mars had owned up to his mistakes, taken responsibility the moment they surfaced, they would have rallied around him, ready to help him rebuild his life.

Chapter 198

But after witnessing his pathetic attempts to shift the blame, how could they possibly trust him again?

Shame washed over them like a tidal wave.

A nagging confusion gnawed at their insides. They had raised him with strong principles, dedicated countless hours to his upbringing. How could their eldest son have devolved into such a selfish, morally bankrupt individual?

“It’s far too late to realize you were wrong now.”

Myers sighed heavily, her disappointment palpable. “Autumn has already divorced you. The fact that she kept it all under wraps so perfectly implies she was ready to leave you long before this. She’s moving on with her life. Don’t you dare bother her. Focus on how you plan to rectify the mistakes you’ve made.”

Mars’s expression was vacant, as if the very essence of who he was had been drained from him.

“She’s starting a new life…?”

*How can she just start anew…? After everything we shared… I only strayed a little in our marriage. How could she just discard it all, abandon me, and choose someone else so easily?*

Myers’s jaw clenched tightly.

Fighting the urge to slap him again, she hissed through gritted teeth, “Why shouldn’t she? Try putting yourself in her shoes for just one second! Could you really forgive your partner if you were the one enduring all this?”

“Mars, your father and I never raised you to be this selfish! I genuinely think you’re a lost cause!”

Mars trembled, a storm of emotions swirling within him.

He wanted to argue, to defend himself, but the words wouldn’t come.

Not wanting to waste another moment on their obstinate son, Hugo and Myers took their younger son’s hand, deciding it was best to get something to eat first.

“Come on, Luke. Mom and Dad will take you out for a bite.”

Luke was indeed fragile, his face perpetually pale and devoid of life.

He looked up at Mars with wide, dark eyes, hesitating before asking, “Isn’t Mars coming?”

Hugo scoffed. “Your brother did something wrong. He needs to stay here and reflect on his actions.”

Luke paused, contemplating for a moment, then nodded. “Mars, can I bring you something to eat? Is there anything you want?”

Mars met the innocent gaze of his younger brother, who was young enough to be his son, and a fresh wave of bitterness surged through him, threatening to drown him.

“Get lost! I don’t need your pity!”

He punctuated his words with a hard shove, sending a shockwave through the room.
