The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 206

**TITLE: Chasing Light, Finding Peace by Rohan Verma**

**Chapter 206**

Autumn had always harbored a deep-seated awareness of her father’s shamelessness. Yet, hearing him vocalize his thoughts sent an icy tremor through her.

Oliver, her father, was a man who yearned to bask in the glow of success without ever shouldering an ounce of responsibility.

How could he possibly believe that life could be so uncomplicated?

His manipulation was not just transparent; it was almost comical in its audacity.

“Enough with the nonsense. I’m simply looking out for you. I’m your father, for heaven’s sake! You think I’d ever want to harm you? Besides, I’m not wrong. If Owen Bennett decides he’s not interested anymore and leaves you stranded, don’t you think you’ll need a safety net?” he argued, his voice a mix of feigned concern and self-serving logic.

Autumn’s heart raced, her frustration bubbling to the surface. “If I were to confront the Bennett Group on your behalf, wouldn’t I be dragging our entire family down with me?”

“Autumn, you’ve been married before. Surely you understand that I have your best interests at heart, right?” he pressed, his tone laced with a manipulative sweetness.

“Let’s not delve into hypotheticals. Just take what I said seriously for once,” she shot back, her impatience palpable.

“When the baby arrives, I’ll have your mom come to care for you while you recover,” he continued, as if his plans were the most logical course of action.

“Who could possibly care for you better than your own family?” he added, his voice dripping with insincerity.

Autumn could take no more.

“That’s enough!” she interrupted, her voice sharp and cutting through the air like a knife. “You want that woman to come ‘take care’ of me? Is she coming to help me heal, or is she just planning to finish me off while I’m vulnerable?”

“I’ve let you play the fool long enough, just as you have throughout my entire life. I stopped expecting any genuine affection from you ages ago. But since you insist on pushing my buttons, I might as well lay it all out for you,” he retorted, his facade slipping.

“I don’t want Mars Wright. I don’t want Cloudbreak Corporation. And I certainly don’t want you, this pathetic excuse for a father,” she declared, her voice steady with conviction.

“You better engrave my words into your mind. I won’t always be this polite about it. You saw what happened to Mars. I know just as much of the Lopez family’s dirty secrets as you do. If you push me too far, I’ll find a very public platform to air it all out, so everyone can witness the kind of man you truly are!”

Oliver’s face contorted with rage, nearly choking on his anger. “What are you saying? Autumn, do you even have a conscience? How can you speak to me like that?”

“What dirty secrets? You’re just spewing lies!” he snapped, desperation creeping into his voice.

Autumn let out a cold, mirthless laugh. “Am I? So, that video of you and Lydia’s mother fooling around next to my mom’s hospital bed is just a figment of my imagination?”

“I also have footage of Lydia throwing herself at Mars, using every trick in the book to get into his bed,” she continued, her voice steady and chilling.

“Do you think if I sold this material, I could fetch a pretty penny for it?”

Oliver was momentarily stunned, his phone almost slipping from his grasp.

“How do you have those things?” he stammered, panic flashing in his eyes.

The moment the words escaped his lips, he realized he had made a grave error. He pressed his lips together, momentarily at a loss for words.

Autumn, however, was ablaze with fury.

She truly possessed incriminating evidence regarding the affair between Lydia and Mars.

But the allegation about her father and stepmother? That was a fabrication, conjured in a moment of heated desperation.

She had been too young to witness any such incident; if a video existed, it would never have reached her hands.

Moreover, she had never pursued the truth over the years, so she remained blissfully ignorant.

Yet, in the heat of the moment, she decided to wield it as a weapon, a way to twist the knife deeper into Oliver’s heart.

She never anticipated her bluff would land with such force.

That monster! Her father was indeed a true villain!

He had the audacity to bring his mistress to her mother’s deathbed and engage in such disgraceful behavior!

No wonder Autumn recalled the doctors repeatedly stating that her mother had lost the will to live.
