The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Autumn instinctively glanced at Owen,

The power in this marriage of convenience lay in Owen’s hands.

It would be better if he was the one to explain.

Otherwise, how was she supposed to tell Miles that she was pregnant with Owen’s child while still married?

It was a wound that sent pain shooting through her entire body every time it was reopened, and she just couldn’t bring herself to say the words.

Owen noticed her gaze, pausing for a moment before speaking. We’re going to be working together.

That simple sentence carried a lot of weight.

Miles clearly interpreted it to mean that Owen saw Autumn’s potential and was planning to partner with her to develop the Lopez Group.

After all, not even in his wildest dreams would he imagine that his old classmate was pregnant with his best friend’s baby.

The whole thing was a bombshell, and it couldn’t be explained in a few words. Owen was right not to just come out with

    1. it.

A partnership, that’s great! It’s a shame I’m back home now, otherwise, I’d totally come work at the Lopez Group to help

you out.

I’ve always regretted that we never got the chance to really team up before.

Miles’s face was filled with wistful regret.

Autumn tried to console him. It’s not like the chance is gone forever.

Miles smiled. That’s true.

If you have a good project, just come find me. I know exactly what you’re capable of, and we’re old classmates. I’d rather keep business between friends, so we can just help each other out. A winwin.

Autumn nodded eagerly. Okay.

Owen watched the two of them, lost in their own world, and a flicker of displeasure crossed his eyes.

Drink some water.

Owen handed a glass of warm water to her.

Autumn paused, surprised, but took it.

To Miles, the way Owen handed her the glass and the way she took it was so natural, their relationship seemed like more than just a simple partnership.

You two

Chapter 21

Miles stored intently at the pair in front of him.

Autumn finally realized Miles was still there. The water was trapped in her mouth, and she didn’t know whether to swallow

or spit it out.

Did he figure something out?

She couldn’t help but glance at Owen, hoping he would think of something, fast.

With Miles being a mutual friend, Autumn knew she couldn’t hide the truth for long.

But since they hadn’t told him upfront, letting it slip now might make Miles overthink things, maybe even feel like they

didn’t trust him.

Autumn didn’t want to hurt her friend’s feelings, so she pinned her hopes on Owen to smooth things over again.

This time, however, Owen acted as if he didn’t see the plea in her eyes at all. He even raised an eyebrow and asked, What’s wrong? Is the water cold?

Autumn was speechless.

I’m starting to think he’s doing this on purpose.

But she couldn’t figure out why he would.

This kind of drama usually only happened when there was a complicated love triangle, or when someone got jealous and decided to stir the pot.

But the three of themthat wasn’t it at all!

Autumn fro

st as she was thisbicas

saying something to distract Miles and change the subject, he slapped his hands together. I get it! You two used the partnership as an excuse and ended up becoming best buds, right?!

Autumn was bewildered. 7

But the more Miles thought about it, the more it seemed to make sense, and his face lit up with the excitement of finding

a kindred spirit.

Mr. Bennett, you’ve got a great eye!

g with her

Autumn is seriously amazing. You definitely won’t regret partnering

But it’s not cool that you two left me out. Why didn’t you include me?

Am I not your best friend anymore?

Autumn watched Miles ramble on, a look of exasperation in her eyes.

All that worrying was for nothing.

Someone as dense as Miles would probably need time to process the truth even if they spelled it out for him,

With that thought, Autumn’s tense shoulders finally relaxed.

It’s getting late.

Owen, who seemed just as stunned by Miles’s wild imagination, put on a stern face and gave a clear dismissal.

Miles ol

glanced at his watch. You’re right, it is late. I’ll head out for today.

Are you coming with me? There’s actually something I wanted to talk to you about.

Owen gave Miles a long, hard look, but in the end, he didn’t refuse.

Watching the two men leave together, Autumn felt a strange sense of unease

But she didn’t dwell on it. After all, she trusted Miles’s character completely.

As for Owenhe was mature and levelheaded. He wouldn’t do anything weird, right? He was definitely not that childish.

With that thought, Autumn shifted, ready to lie down and rest.

But just then, the hospital room door was kicked open.

Autumn Lopez!

The noise made Autumn jump. She frowned at the doorway and saw Mars Wright and Lydia Lopez storming in, Mars practically radiating fury.

Mars, don’t be angry just yet. Let my sister explain. Maybe it’s all just a misunderstanding,Lydia said, her words dripping with her usual twofaced sweetness the moment she walked in.

A bullshit misunderstanding? Do you think I’m blind?

You’ve got some nerve, Autumn Lopez. Telling me you need to rest, when you’re really in a hospital cheating on me? Do I deserve this?

Lydia shot a hesitant look at Mars before turning to Autumn. Sister, I really can’t defend you this time. You’ve gone too farAnd here I was, feeling so guilty, thinking you were actually sick. I never expected

You should hurry up and apologize to Mars. Otherwise, how are you going to handle this when it blows up?

If you’re mad at Mars because I’ve been spending time with him and you hired someone to make him jealous, then you’re being completely unreasonable, sister. It’s really not what you think between Mars and me.

Can’t you have a little faith in us?

Lydia’s words were like water on a grease fire. Mars instantly exploded. That’s enough, Lydia! Stop talking! You always. stick up for her like this, but look what she does? She hurt you before and didn’t even apologize, then she sneaks out of the club and hides in a hospital playing the victim, all while she’s out screwing around behind my back!

I must have the worst luck in the world to have married a woman like you.

Autumn stared at Mars, who was acting like an enraged gorilla, and said coolly. Then let’s get a divorce.

Mars froze, as if a hand had suddenly clamped around his throat, all his angry shouts dying on his lips.

He stared at Autumn in stunned silence, then asked in disbelief, What did you say?
