The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 254

**Chasing Light, Finding Peace by Rohan Verma**
**Chapter 254**

Owen didn’t spare a single glance in Oliver Lopez’s direction, his focus unwavering.

The atmosphere was thick with tension, and Oliver found himself engulfed in a wave of unsettling familiarity, which transported him back to the chaotic moments of Mars Wright’s birthday party. Memories flashed before him—his desperate attempts to win Owen’s favor, all of which had been met with cold indifference.

Now, standing in the same stifling air, he felt an all-too-familiar frustration bubbling within him. The irony of his situation gnawed at him; he was supposed to be the father-in-law, yet here he was, reduced to a mere shadow in Owen’s presence. He couldn’t afford to lose his composure or resort to the father-in-law card. All he could do was force a smile, a mask for the simmering frustration boiling beneath the surface.

“Mr. Bennett, please don’t take this the wrong way. I was merely joking with Autumn. She is my most cherished daughter; how could I ever dream of causing her harm?”

As he spoke, Oliver cast a series of pointed glances at Autumn, silently urging her to intervene and salvage his dignity.

But Autumn, having witnessed her father’s true nature, felt a wave of resentment wash over her. She had no desire to mend the rift between them; in fact, she yearned for complete severance. Why would she ever consider helping him again?

In a display of defiance, she channeled Owen’s own ability to deliver icy glares and turned her back on her father’s pleading eyes. Instead, she stepped closer to Owen, taking his hand in hers. “You’re here,” she said, her voice steady.

Owen’s expression softened as he regarded Autumn, concern etched into his features. “Nina filled me in on everything.”

“I’ll take care of this.”

Autumn nodded, an unspoken trust in her gaze as she handed over the reins of the situation to Owen without a moment’s hesitation.

Owen’s heart swelled at her faith in him, a silent acknowledgment that their bond was deepening with each passing day. This was a promising sign, one that filled him with hope.

“Autumn…” Oliver’s voice was strained, frustration lacing his words.

He couldn’t bear the silence any longer. In his mind, he concocted a plan; if he could just charm Owen, he’d be willing to sacrifice a few things along the way.

Autumn’s brow furrowed in concern.

Before she could voice her thoughts, Owen shot a frigid glare at Oliver. “Is there something else you wish to discuss, Mr. Lopez? My wife and I are preparing to leave.”

That single look from Owen made Oliver’s legs feel unsteady.

Despite being younger, Oliver felt the weight of Owen’s authority pressing down on him, and he dared not invoke the seniority card in this moment.

“Mr. Bennett, regardless of circumstances, Autumn remains a daughter of the Lopez family. We are truly honored that she has captured your attention. However, she has just divorced Mars Wright, and now she’s pregnant… It’s hardly appropriate for you to whisk her away like this. Why not allow Autumn to come home with us first?”

“Her mother and I will ensure she is well taken care of. As for the two of you, you can move in together after the wedding. This way, we can avoid any unwanted gossip. Wouldn’t you agree, Mr. Bennett?”

Oliver Lopez believed he had meticulously crafted a perfect plan.

The fact that Autumn was a Lopez was indisputable.

And he was her father. Now that she was marrying Owen Bennett, they had to adhere to the traditions of their culture.

Moreover, with Autumn expecting, it was only sensible for her to remain with her family until the baby arrived.

He was confident that no one could challenge his logic.

If he could just manage to get Autumn back to the Lopez household, it would be significantly more challenging for Owen to see her.

Then, all the advantages of the marriage would naturally flow his way.

He envisioned this as a prime opportunity to announce their union to the world. Whether Owen acknowledged it or not, everyone would soon recognize him as the father-in-law of the CEO of the Bennett Group.

He wouldn’t even need Owen to utter a word; anyone wishing to thrive in their social circle would instinctively begin to offer him favors.

With that, the status of the Lopez Group would inevitably soar.

The more Oliver entertained these thoughts, the more his spirits lifted, an unmistakable smugness creeping onto his face. “And since you’re getting married, shouldn’t our two families meet first?”

“Otherwise, what will people say about our daughter?”

“Mr. Bennett, when are your parents available? We could arrange something right away. I can see Autumn’s belly is growing by the day. We should expedite this wedding before she can’t fit into a wedding dress.”

Though his words dripped with a facade of concern for Autumn, the truth was clear—he was no longer even pretending.

Everyone was well aware of the fractured relationship he shared with Autumn. He had even gone so far as to exclude her from the Lopez Group over matters of company shares.

In the eyes of society, wasn’t that akin to a father disowning his own daughter?

After committing such a reprehensible act, he still had the audacity to play the role of a respectable father-in-law. It was utterly revolting.
