The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 260

**The Foolproof Formula for a Happy Wife**

“But Autumn, there’s still so much I want to share with you!” Nina exclaimed, her voice bubbling with enthusiasm.

All night long, she had been a whirlwind of excitement, her energy electric, even as fatigue weighed heavily on her body. Her mind, however, was a restless storm, refusing to quiet down.

“What could possibly be left to discuss?” Owen interjected, his tone blunt as he gestured toward the stairs. “Just go upstairs.”

Nina turned to Autumn, her eyes wide and pleading. “Autumn…”

With a slight shrug, Autumn conveyed her helplessness. It was clear that sending Nina off to bed was for her own benefit. In youth, one might believe that staying up all night is a trivial affair, but as the years pass, the body begins to protest in ways one cannot ignore.

“Fine, I’ll head to bed,” Nina relented, her voice laced with disappointment.

“Are you busy today, Autumn? I want to have a real heart-to-heart when I wake up!” Nina’s enthusiasm was infectious, and it made Autumn smile despite the late hour.

Glancing at her calendar, Autumn replied, “I have a prenatal check-up scheduled for today.”

“Perfect! After that, I’m all yours,” Nina declared, her spirits lifting at the thought of their upcoming conversation.

“OMG! I can’t wait! I’ll get some rest now, and we can chat as soon as you’re back from the appointment!”

Nina was not so presumptuous as to suggest tagging along. After all, she hadn’t slept a wink. If she accompanied Autumn in her current state, it was likely that Autumn would end up looking after her instead. Besides, a prenatal check-up was a significant event; there was no way she would make Autumn wait for her to catch up on beauty sleep.

It was always best to get such things done early, for the sake of peace of mind.

“Okay,” Autumn replied, her tone softening.

“Oh, and by the way, when you’re getting ready, you should turn on the aromatherapy diffuser. It’s fantastic for calming your nerves,” Nina suggested, her excitement returning.

“Got it!” Nina opened her arms wide, ready to envelop Autumn in a warm hug.

But before she could reach her, Owen stepped in, grabbing her collar and pulling her back with a firm grip.

“You’ve been up all night. You smell like the office. Don’t get that on Autumn or the baby,” he warned, his expression serious.

Nina’s cheeks flushed with indignation. “That’s not true! You can’t just ruin my reputation like that!” she protested, her voice rising in disbelief. Besides, the baby was still so tiny—how could it possibly be affected by her scent?

“Just go,” Owen said, his glare sharp, issuing a final warning.

In the end, Nina didn’t dare to defy him. She cast a forlorn glance at Autumn, lowering her voice to a whisper as she said, “Alright, Autumn, I’m heading up,” dragging her weary body toward the stairs.

Autumn smiled gently and handed Owen a glass of juice. “You know, you could have been a little nicer to Nina.”

While Nina could indeed be a handful at times, she didn’t seem unreasonable. Owen really didn’t need to be so harsh with a young woman like her.

“She’s a little rascal. The nicer you are to her, the more she’ll take advantage,” Owen countered, his tone dismissive.

“Her parents spoiled her rotten. She never learned how to read a room,” he added, shaking his head.

Autumn chuckled softly. “But with her background, it’s not like she ever had to learn to read a room, did she?”

She had done her homework on Nina’s family. Although they weren’t quite on the same level as the Bennetts, they were undeniably wealthy, with their influence growing ever since they moved abroad. Plus, with Nina’s mother being Owen’s aunt, the family connection meant Nina had little need to strive too hard.

“My aunt and uncle are determined to groom her to take over the family business. It would be beneficial for her to develop a more mature personality sooner rather than later,” Owen remarked, his tone thoughtful.

Autumn frowned, feeling a twinge of disagreement. However, she recognized that this was Owen’s family matter, and it wasn’t her place to interfere too much.

So, she took a sip of her juice, allowing a comfortable silence to settle between them.
