Chapter 298
Following Margaret’s gaze, Autumn noticed the paparazzi too.
She quickly did as Margaret said, pulling up her collar to hide her face and digging a mask out of her purse to put on.
In that moment, Autumn was truly grateful that Owen was the one who packed her things.
He had told her the air outside was full of germs, so she should carry a mask with her and be sure to wear it in crowded, enclosed spaces.
Autumn used to think Owen was making a big deal out of nothing, but now she realized he just had incredible foresight.
“Let’s go this way.”
Margaret was clearly an old pro at dodging paparazzi.
But her brow remained furrowed in a slight frown.
Noticing Autumn’s glance, she said with a hint of regret, “I knew we should have brought the bodyguards.”
Margaret had been retired from acting for many years. The first half of her life had been spent in the spotlight, where even a simple date with her husband meant sneaking around or finding somewhere secluded.
As she gradually stepped away from that world, she finally got to enjoy life like a normal person.
She figured that even back in the country, she wouldn’t be recognized so easily, so she had left the conspicuous bodyguards behind.
She hadn’t expected it to become a problem.
Sometimes, paparazzi and crazed fans got worked up and could be incredibly destructive.
Margaret wasn’t worried about herself, but if Autumn got bumped or bruised, she’d be the Bennett family’s public enemy number one.
“It’s okay, Mom. They might not even follow us.”
Margaret nodded, but she didn’t let her guard down for a second.
Once they finally made it into the VIP passageway and saw the suspected paparazzi being held back, Margaret finally let out a sigh of relief.
“We finally lost them.”
Margaret patted her chest, still shaken. “You have no idea what those guys are capable of when they go crazy.”

Chapter 298
“One time, to get a scoop on a certain A–list star, a paparazzo actually snuck into his home and secretly byed
there for a month.”
“He was taking pictures the whole time and using them to blackmail the star and his agent. At first, the stars company thought he’d just been careless and gotten caught on camera, but then the photos got more and more explicit, and more and more private. After an investigation, they discovered the guy had been living under the star’s bed the whole time.”
“Ugh-”
Just the thought of it sent a shiver down Autumn’s spine.
“That A–lister must have been terrified, right?”
Just imagining someone else in her home, in her space, watching everything she did, made the hair on Autumn’s arms stand on end.
“It drove him crazy. I heard he developed a psychological condition and had to see a therapist for over half a year before he started getting better.”
“But even now, he refuses to live alone, and every time he goes home, he neurotically searches the whole place.”
“I heard he recently bought a new house, a huge, open–plan flat with no blind spots. He didn’t want any closets or anything like that, just a space where he could see everything at a glance.”
Autumn clicked her tongue.
“These paparazzi are relentless.”
“Tell me about it,” Margaret said.
“Back when I was making movies, your father was so worried about me that I always stayed in our family’s private villas.”
“But even in a place with that much privacy, photos would still occasionally get leaked. Can you believe how skilled these guys are?”
Autumn was a little confused. “Why are people so obsessed with knowing about other people’s lives?”
Was it really that important to know what someone did in private?
The job of a singer is to produce great songs.
The job of an actor is to deliver film and TV performances that satisfy the audience.
Why were paparazzi so desperate to expose people’s private lives?
“For the money, of course.”

Chapter 298
“Who would do something if there’s no benefit in it these days?”
Autumn shook her head. “But I feel like money earned that way would burn a hole in your pocket.”
“It would.”
Margaret despised the paparazzi, too.
If even she couldn’t completely stop them from prying into her life, what chance did other celebrities have?
It was no wonder so many of them were starting to suffer from depression.
Not only were they being trashed online, but their real lives were like The Truman Show, with every single move being magnified. It would be enough to break anyone.
“Anyway, let’s not talk about all that.”
Worried that all the messy talk would affect the baby in Autumn’s belly, Margaret smiled and said, “Since we’re here, I’ll take you to look at some jewelry.”
“We can have a solid gold medallion made for our little baby.”
“What do you think of a 500–gram one?”
Autumn nearly choked on her own spit.
“Five hundred grams?”
Margaret thought Autumn was implying it was too light and hummed in thought. “Then how about 888 grams? That’s a lucky number.”
Autumn quickly cut in to stop her. “Mom, that’s way too heavy. A baby would definitely feel weighed down by
it.”
Margaret nodded. “You have a point.”
Autumn breathed a sigh of relief, seeing that she’d dropped the idea.
Never mind a baby, even an adult would be struggling with over 800 grams of gold hanging around their neck.
“Then let’s commission a sculpture of their zodiac sign to keep at home. Before Owen was even born, his father and I prepared so much for him–trust funds, stock portfolios, all of it. Whether your little one is a boy or a girl, we’ll do the same. We can’t play favorites.”
Autumn opened her mouth, but it was too late to object.
“Alright, it’s decided.”
“Don’t you worry about it. Your father and I will handle it.”
