“Yes.”
“Not only did they go bankrupt, but Robert Williams was also arrested.”
Autumn lowered her gaze. *Just as I thought.*
If it wasn’t for such a deep–seated grudge, she figured the Bennett and Williams families wouldn’t have ended up on such hostile terms.
“So back then, the hole in the Williams Corporation’s finances was…”
An icy look flickered across Owen’s face.
“Robert Williams was set up. The president of the Williams Corporation, the heir groomed by the family, actually fell for a honey trap.”
“He believed the woman and poured every last bit of available capital into a shell project.”
“A giant like the Williams Corp shouldn’t have collapsed immediately just because its cash flow was cut off.”
“But the company had been going downhill ever since Robert took over.”
“The broken cash flow was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.”
“And it became the fuse that lit the feud between our families.”
Autumn drew in a sharp breath.
Putting everything else aside, that whole Williams family was truly incompetent and arrogant.
Isabella wanted to have her cake and eat it too, while Robert was useless and conceited.
“Your grandpa and Isabella were already divorced by then, right?”
“They were.”
“The whole thing was a huge scandal in high society for a long time.”
“The Bennetts had never had a divorce scandal in all those years. The Williams family was in deep trouble at the time, so Isabella used it as a chance to play the victim, and Robert went to the Bennett Group headquarters to cause a scene every day.”
“My grandpa didn’t soften. He felt he’d done more than enough for the Williams family, so no matter how much they screamed and cried, he ignored them and started planning his wedding to my grandmother.”
“When the Williamses saw they couldn’t sway my grandpa, they turned their attention to my grandma. But here’s the thing–even though her family hadn’t paid her much mind before, as soon as her relationship with my grandpa went public, they started treating her like a goddess. When they found out the Williamses were

trying to sabotage the wedding and bully my grandma, they took matters into their own hands and made a…
bold decision.”
The color drained from Autumn’s face.
Working backward from what she knew now, the Williams family must have suffered a devastating blow back
then.
And Owen’s grandmother’s family was likely caught in the crossfire, which would explain why they’d practically vanished.
“Isabella was kidnapped. Robert was at a gambling table at the time, trying to win back his fortune on his own. He overestimated his abilities. So not only did he lose the last of their assets, but he also got Isabella
violated and killed.”
“The kidnappers never got the money from Robert, so they took it out on Isabella in the most humiliating way possible. By the time Robert got there, all that was left on the ground was a pool of flesh and blood.”
Autumn’s body trembled uncontrollably.
She always knew that the wealthy elite had their ways of destroying people without spilling blood, but she never imagined anyone could be so ruthless.
Strictly speaking, the Williams family’s tragedy was and wasn’t the Bennetts‘ fault.
They should have looked at their own failings instead of blaming everyone else.
“What happened in the end?”
Autumn guessed that both families must have suffered heavy losses, but she couldn’t imagine the specifics.
After all, the minds of these powerful people were devious. And with Robert having already devolved into a
degenerate gambler, Autumn had no idea what he might do for revenge.
“After Isabella’s funeral, Robert disappeared, taking her child with him.”
“The Bennetts stepped in and dealt with my grandmother’s troublesome family for her.”
*So in the end, the Bennetts were the ones who got revenge?*
“Does Robert know about that?”
Owen’s eyes filled with contempt. “He knows.”
“But he thinks the Bennetts only did it out of guilt, so he’s not grateful at all. He thinks it’s what they owed his family.”
“After he went abroad, he kept hitting up my grandpa for money, using the kid’s education as an excuse. If Grandpa didn’t pay up, he’d throw a fit and threaten to sue him for abandonment.”

Chapter 303
“Everyone said Robert had probably lost his mind. But Grandpa still had a soft spot for the child, so he sent a large sum of money to a relative overseas and asked them to take good care of the boy.”
“We thought that growing up in that environment would make the boy mature and sensible. But he’s a Williams through and through. From the moment he was old enough, he started sending things to my grandmother–sometimes threatening letters, other times insulting photos.”
“He resents my grandmother, thinking she stole what should have been his. He resents my father, too.”
“At first, he tried to go against the Bennett family, but he backed down when he realized everything he had
came from them.”
“He only started acting up again recently.”
Autumn felt a tightness in her chest, like a breath she couldn’t take or release.
“So what are they stirring up now?”
Owen rubbed his aching temples, his voice laced with frustration. “They probably just see we’re too happy
and want to make our lives miserable on purpose.”
Autumn was speechless.
The Williamses were like rabid dogs, sinking their teeth into the Bennetts and refusing to let go.
“What does the Bennett family plan to do?”
Robert was one thing.
But the one causing trouble now was a Bennett by blood.
He was Owen’s biological uncle.
If they came down too hard, people would think the Bennetts really are cold–blooded.
The whole mess with the Williams family from back then could get dragged up all over again.
Even though everyone knew it was the Williamses‘ fault back then, society always sympathizes with the
underdog.
It was obvious who the public would feel sorry for: the monolithic Bennett Group, or the two Williams orphans
-an uncle and his nephew, left with nothing but each other,
“Let them have their fun for a little while longer.”
