Chapter 323
Owen understood what Autumn meant in an instant,
“The Lopez family is done for?”
Autumn nodded.
Owen let out a soft chuckle. “You’re incredible, Autumn.”
“The baby in your belly is getting some real–world lessons before they’re even born. Now that’s what I call prenatal education.”
Autumn shot him a look. “Are you complimenting me or making fun of me?”
“Complimenting you, of course.”
Smiling, Owen sat down beside Autumn, taking her hand. “I’ll admit, I hesitated before about whether or not ! should help you,” he said softly.
“But then I remembered how you insisted on handling the divorce yourself, without my interference. I figured you probably weren’t too keen on other people solving your problems for you, so I never brought it up.”
“Besides, I actually found some things out about the Lopez family. You didn’t seem ready to make a move against them, so I didn’t tell you.”
“Do you want to know now?”
Autumn froze.
She knew Owen cared deeply about her affairs.
That he had been paying close attention, even when she wasn’t aware of it.
But she never imagined he had done so much behind her back.
Instead of immediately asking what he’d discovered, Autumn looked at Owen with a grave expression and uttered two words: “I’m doomed.”
Owen was baffled. “How are you doomed?”
Was she worried that if she took her revenge on the Lopez family, all this other stuff would be buried?
“You know, if you want, I have plenty of ways to help you.”
“The Bennett family’s connections in that area are far more extensive than you can imagine.”
Autumn let out a little gasp, scratching her head awkwardly.
“No, that’s not what I meant.”

Chapter 323
She hadn’t expected her words to accidentally smoke out information she wasn’t supposed to know.
Owen’s comment basically confirmed that the Bennett family had some shady dealings of its own.
Of course, there had always been rumors.
But if anyone ever asked, the official answer would always be no.
That kind of thing was an open secret you kept to yourself, not something you ever broadcast.
Knowing this, Autumn had never pried.
And now, the truth had just unceremoniously landed in her lap.
“What I mean is… I’m just realizing how much you’ve actually done for me.”
“It gives me this sense of guilt, like I’m always going to disappoint you.”
Autumn was serious about their relationship and naturally wanted things between them to get better and better.
A husband and wife should support each other; it couldn’t just be one person giving endlessly.
Autumn once overheard her parents fighting. Her father, Oliver, had yelled, “I gave up so much for you! I was humiliated and scorned, and this is how you treat me?”
Her mother had retorted furiously, “Was I the one who told you to cheat? You’re the one who started looking elsewhere, and now you’re trying to pin all the blame on me?”
“It takes two to tango, so don’t you dare try to shift all the responsibility!”
Her mother’s words hit a nerve. Oliver pointed a finger straight at her nose and snarled, “You’ve spent all these years eating my food and living off my money without earning a single cent. What right do you have to say any of this? If you want to keep living this comfortable life, you’ll shut your mouth. Otherwise, don’t expect another dollar from me.”
That had silenced her mother. From then on, Mrs. Lopez’s attitude toward him changed completely. She became fawning and obsequious, resorting to all sorts of tricks to please him.
It was then that Autumn understood that an unequal relationship was destined to become a burden in a
marriage.
When one partner is too dominant, the other automatically becomes subservient.
Everything they do is from an unequal footing.
And when one partner gives too much, it morphs into a self–congratulatory kind of sacrifice.
It either gets thrown back in their face-“Did I ask you to do all that? Why should I have to pay the price for your need to be a martyr?”

Or it becomes a weapon to blame the other person.
“Don’t you get it? I did all of this for you! Why can’t you just understand me? Do you have to drive me crazy to be happy?”
Autumn was certain she and Owen would never become that kind of couple.
But some shadows were hard to shake, and it was stirring up an undeniable anxiety in her.
Perhaps it was related to the pregnancy. The surging hormones were probably making her blow things way out of proportion–things she could normally handle with ease.
Autumn knew this wasn’t a healthy state of mind, so she decided to just lay all her thoughts out for Owen. Owen had known these things were important to Autumn, but he never realized her concerns ran this deep. “You silly girl, why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“If you’d told me, I would have found you a therapist right away.”
Autumn was a little embarrassed. “I was worried people would think I was making a big deal out of nothing.”
In truth, a lot of people struggled with their mental health in today’s world.
It was just that most people dealt with it quietly on their own, so it never seemed to bother anyone else.
Autumn felt her own high expectations for herself were starting to affect her relationship with Owen.
Telling him was also a way of giving him a heads–up.
To prevent them from fighting over something like this later on.
“How could they?”
Owen kissed Autumn’s forehead, his touch full of affection.
“You have no idea how adorable this makes you.”
Owen’s heart genuinely ached for her.
He had always seen her as strong, smart, and brave–excellent in every way.
Only now did he realize just how much she had to overcome to become the exceptional woman she was
today.
She was so determined. Even when she suspected she might have a psychological issue, she didn’t just let it fester; she actively tried to save herself.
And when she realized she couldn’t do it alone, she had the courage to ask for help.
A woman like Autumn would always, no matter the circumstances, take good care of herself.
