The Day I Quit Him (Autumn and Mars) novel Chapter 94

**Chasing Light, Finding Peace** – by Rohan Verma

Owen cast a sidelong glance at Autumn, a flicker of unease dancing in his eyes. “Are you not feeling well?” he inquired, his voice laced with concern.

Autumn jolted back to reality, shaking her head vigorously. “No, I’m fine,” she replied, though her mind was still tangled in the events of the day. After a brief moment, she managed to muster a small smile for him.

“Thank you for coming all the way out here today, and for Lawyer Miller…” she began, her gratitude genuine but tinged with an underlying tension.

Owen’s brow furrowed, deepening the lines on his forehead. “We’re past being so formal with each other,” he stated, a hint of frustration creeping into his tone.

Autumn was fully aware of this, as Owen had reiterated it multiple times. Yet, ingrained in her nature was a reluctance to accept kindness without feeling a sense of obligation.

“1—” she started, preparing to explain her feelings, but Owen had already turned away, instructing the driver to proceed.

From her vantage point, she could see the rigid line of his jaw, the way his lips pressed together as if holding back a storm. He appeared… angry.

A wave of anxiety washed over Autumn, and she instinctively twisted her hands together, a nervous habit she thought she had outgrown. She knew she should probably say something, anything, to ease the tension. But the unpredictable nature of Owen’s temper left her hesitant, and she feared that one wrong word could ignite his anger further.

What if she only fanned the flames? After all, provoking him wouldn’t serve her well.

“What’s your plan for the divorce certificate?” Owen asked, his voice slicing through the silence.

Autumn blinked, a flicker of confusion crossing her features. She struggled to grasp the weight of his question.

Owen sighed, as if he were burdened with the weight of their situation. “Once the divorce is finalized, our families won’t be left in the dark anymore. What are you going to do?”

Suddenly, clarity dawned upon Autumn. “Get revenge, obviously. An eye for an eye,” she declared, her voice firm.

She had not bided her time without making any plans. If Mars and Lydia possessed even a modicum of decency and were willing to end things amicably, she was prepared to grant the Lopez family and Mars one final semblance of dignity. But if they chose to be relentless, they could hardly blame her for exposing their secrets.

“Just give me a heads-up before you do,” Owen cautioned, his tone shifting to one of genuine concern.

Autumn’s instinct was to ask, “What for?” but she quickly recalled that Mars and the Lopez family were not to be underestimated. The humiliation of having been blindsided by her divorce would surely sting for them.

The Lopez family would not let this go easily, and neither would Mars. If they grew desperate, she would be fine, but if they chose to harm the baby growing inside her, Owen would undoubtedly lose his temper.

“Okay,” she replied, her voice steady yet contemplative. She mentally calculated the days ahead. It wouldn’t be long now. She needed to start preparing her “gifts” for Mars and his new partner.

Upon returning to the villa, Autumn was greeted by a barrage of unread messages on her phone. Curiosity piqued, she pulled it out to find herself inundated with notifications from Mars and the Lopez family.

Mars was predictable, sending a flurry of messages feigning concern and inquiring when she would return home. The Lopez family, however, adopted a far more aggressive stance, demanding that she apologize to Mars.

They even had the audacity to say they had never witnessed a wife send her husband to the police station, warning her that if she didn’t handle this situation delicately and angered Mars, her father would never forgive her.

A cynical laugh escaped Autumn’s lips as she opened the family group chat she had muted. Instead of rehashing the past transgressions of Mars and Lydia, she decided to drop a bait.

【Dad told me to apologize to you. I’m sorry, @Mars Wright】

Her infrequent contributions to the group chat had already shifted perceptions of her. After the last explosive incident, many had begun to realize that Autumn was no longer the same meek person they once knew.

Not everyone in the chat was oblivious. They had witnessed her transformation, and a few had even begun to place bets on her newfound strength.

When her name resurfaced in the chat, several family members immediately chimed in.

[What’s going on now? Why is your family having drama every other day? Autumn, why does your dad want you to apologize?]

Autumn responded with a simple sad-face emoji, choosing silence over elaboration.

This prompted a flurry of gossip among the others. Oliver Lopez, unable to contain his disbelief, sent a sixty-second voice memo berating her for her audacity.

As the other Lopez relatives listened, their expressions turned sour, but Autumn remained unfazed, her gaze fixed on the chat screen, a glint of mockery evident in her eyes.
