THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 1029

Elsa added, "And best of all, it's just the three of us here. No more drama or mind games, and we don't have to worry about getting along with new roommates! This is just amazing! Catie, we owe this all to you."

"Yeah, Catie, thank you so much!" Gertrude said, also looking at Caitlin.

Caitlin had been considering asking to be moved to a six-person dorm, but seeing how happy Elsa and Gertrude were, she dismissed the thought.

"It must have been Norris's doing," Caitlin said. "He's working on a partnership with Kingsward University right now."

Elsa walked over to Caitlin. "Catie, I honestly can't believe you're the real Miss Gonzales! You're so low-key! You just let Charis act like a clown for all that time."

The thought of Charis putting on airs in front of a genuine heiress made Elsa want to laugh out loud.

--

Norris had an office at Kingsward University. After leaving the principal, he had someone look into Charis's family background.

His assistant soon arrived with a file.

"Mr. Richards."

"Did you find anything?" Norris asked.

The assistant nodded. "Yes. Charis's father is named Aelfric Gonzales. Twenty years ago, his life changed when he won a one-hundred-fifty-million-dollar lottery. He invested heavily in real estate and reaped significant profits. The family just moved to Neon Spire this year. They're classic new money."

The assistant paused. "Additionally, I discovered that the person who initially bought the lottery ticket was not Aelfric, but his younger brother, Bill Gonzales. Bill had been in poor health since childhood, and upon learning he'd won, he had a fatal heart attack from the shock. Aelfric had Bill cremated overnight. Since Bill wasn't married and had no children, Aelfric inherited the ticket."

Cremated overnight? Why the rush?

Norris narrowed his eyes. "It seems there isn't a decent person in that entire family. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

"There's more," the assistant continued. "Charis appears to be connected to a homicide case. The victim's family even attempted suicide in protest, but it seems they were eventually paid off. Also, Aegis Dynamics, the company under Aelfric and his wife Wanda's name, is involved in projects related to prostitution and drugs…"

Framed someone for stealing?

Aelfric slammed his hand on the desk. "They dared to arrest my daughter over something so trivial? Do they think I'm a pushover? Just wait until I find out who did this. I'll destroy them!"

When Charis was eighteen, she had gotten into trouble and caused someone's death. He had managed to make that go away. This was nothing in comparison. Aelfric wasn't worried at all.

Wanda wiped her tears, her expression vicious. "Yes, we have to destroy that little bitch! Doesn't she know who my daughter is? How dare she bully her!"

BANG!

The office door was kicked open violently.

"Freeze! Hands in the air!"

A group of armed police officers swarmed in. Before Aelfric and Wanda could react, cold handcuffs were snapped onto their wrists. "Wanda and Aelfric, correct? We have evidence to suspect that your company, Aegis Dynamics, is involved in drug trafficking. Please come with us to cooperate with the investigation!"
