THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 1222

Elsa was now under heavy surveillance. She was guilty, yes, but the law would be her judge. No one else had the right to lay a hand on her, not even her own father.

Though furious, Chad Summers didn't dare openly defy the law. He and his wife shuffled out of the hospital room, defeated.

Grover glanced from their retreating backs to the woman lying on the bed, an unreadable expression in his eyes. Elsa's situation brought a certain saying to mind.

A pitiful person often has a detestable side, and a detestable person, a pitiful one.

Sensing his gaze, Elsa spoke. "Mr. Grover, do you find my life laughable, too?"

"You can't choose the family you're born into," Grover said, "but you can choose the path you walk. Elsa, you could have had a much better future."

She wasn't the only person in the world with a toxic family. If everyone reacted as extremely as she had, society would descend into chaos.

Elsa closed her eyes, saying nothing.

At this point, what was there left to say?

--

Soon after, with Elsa's confession, the police located the bodies of the Forrester family. Elsa was officially indicted, and at her first trial, she was sentenced to death by execution.

The sentence was to be carried out in three months.

Elsa accepted the verdict and waived her right to appeal. For her, death was now a release.

Meanwhile, the case of the Capital City family's annihilation and dismemberment became a top headline in crime news. Elsa was interviewed by reporters from various news outlets. In years, no one else had single-handedly wiped out an entire family the way she had. The moment the story broke, it exploded online and racked up an unimaginable number of views.

A reporter from a major legal affairs channel also came for an interview with Elsa.

The program was broadcast live.

Elsa stood calmly before the camera, recounting her crimes without a hint of the panic one would expect from someone facing execution.

"My name is Elsa, Elsa Summers."

"That's a beautiful name," the reporter commented. "Your family must have been overjoyed when you were born."

Elsa offered a faint smile. "Perhaps."

Once, she too had believed her birth was a welcome event.

"I heard you're a top graduate of Kingsward University?" the reporter continued.

Just then, Elsa looked up. "Reporter Blake, could you do me a favor and pass a message to my parents?"

"Of course," the reporter nodded.

"My execution date is approaching," Elsa said. "Before I die, I'd like to see them one last time."

"Okay."

After leaving the prison, Reporter Blake went to see Elsa's parents.

"Mr. and Mrs. Summers, this is Elsa's final wish."

Elsa's father snorted. "See that ungrateful snake? In her dreams! She took a life, now she pays with hers. She deserves it!"

There was no trace of sadness on their faces, no hint of the grief that should accompany losing a child.

It was as if the person about to be executed was a complete stranger.

Then, Elsa's father's eyes narrowed as an idea struck him. His expression softened. "Mr. Blake, you can give her a message from me. Tell her that if she agrees to the condition we discussed before, her mother and I will come see her immediately."
