THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 1224

What? Elton was in an accident?

For a second, the color drained from Chad Summers' face. But then, a thought occurred to him. He sneered into the phone, "You goddamn scammer! You think you can pull a fast one on me? Son of a bitch! Do you think I was born yesterday?"

He wasn't an idiot. He had seen countless news reports about scams like this.

Some fraudster thought they could trick him? Not a chance.

With a sharp click, he hung up.

His wife rushed over. "What was that about?"

"Just some damn scammer," he replied. "Said our Elton was in a car accident and needed me to send half a million dollars."

"The nerve of these people nowadays! They must think we're a couple of clueless old folks from the countryside!" If they were uneducated country folk, they might have fallen for it.

But they were an educated family. They weren't that gullible.

Just then, the phone rang again. It was the same international number.

Chad Summers rejected the call instantly.

Less than three seconds later, it rang again. Persistent.

He flew into a rage, snatching up the phone. "Are you trying to get yourself killed, you piece of trash? If you call again, I hope your whole family dies a horrible death!"

"Mr. Summers, I'm not a scammer, Elton Summers, he…"

Before the person could finish, Chad hung up again. This time, he immediately blocked the number.

The little bastard. Did he really think he was a pushover?

An hour later, the Summers were about to sit down for lunch when a familiar chime came from Mrs. Summers' phone—a WhatsApp video call.

"Who's calling?" her husband asked curiously.

Elsa used to love video calls, but since her arrest, they hadn't heard that sound in a long time.

Mrs. Summers' face turned a ghastly white. She was speechless.

Her husband snatched the phone from her hand.

"Where's Elton? Let me see Elton!"

He'd heard that modern AI was so advanced it could generate realistic images of people. Until he saw his son with his own eyes, he refused to believe it.

Lanny immediately turned the camera back to the hospital bed.

There he was.

In that moment, Chad Summers' heart plummeted into an icy abyss. AI technology might be good, but it wasn't that good.

"Elton! Elton! Elton, what happened to you? It's Dad!" Tears streamed down his face almost instantly.

But Elton lay motionless on the bed, offering no response.
