Chapter 1 How Did She Become the Bad Guy Without Doing Anything Wrong?
“The hospital has changed Miss Foster’s attending physician. Feel free to contact the new doctor if you have any questions,” Evelyn Hart said expressionlessly as she handed Ethan Miller the consent form for the change. She also gave him another document. “Sign this too.”
The words “divorce agreement” caught Ethan Miller’s eye. His hand froze as he was about to sign, and his expression turned cold. “What’s this about? You want a divorce just because I changed Leah’s doctor?”
Evelyn Hart lowered her eyes. “Think whatever you want. Our relationship is over.”
Ethan Miller frowned, clearly annoyed by her dismissive attitude. “Leah got hurt closest to your hospital, so I brought her here. Changing the doctor was to avoid any awkwardness.”
At Ethan Miller’s explanation, Evelyn Hart finally lifted her eyes.
“Avoid awkwardness for whom?”
Ethan Miller grew visibly irritated. “Evelyn Hart, Leah and I are in the past. We’ve been married and have a child, and we’ve been together for seven years. You don’t need to bring her up. No one can shake your position as Mrs. Miller.”
Evelyn Hart found it ridiculous.
Did he really think she cared about the title of Mrs. Miller?
If only she hadn’t fallen in love with him….
She closed her eyes, suppressing all her emotions. When she looked at Ethan Miller again, her eyes were icy cold. “Sign the papers. Miss Foster is waiting for you inside.”
Ethan Miller glanced towards the hospital room.
Leah Foster looked deathly pale, her thin body curled up on the hospital bed, looking pitifully vulnerable.
He pursed his lips. “Let’s talk about this at home.”
Evelyn Hart watched him rush into the room eagerly. She scoffed at herself, then lowered her eyes and headed back to her office.
Just then, her phone rang.
It was a message from the nanny. “Madam, Master William said he won’t be coming home today. He’s on his way to the hospital. He probably wants to share the good news about his trophy with you. The driver has already taken him
there.”
Evelyn Hart smiled.
Her son, William Miller, was the only consolation in this marriage. Although he could be a handful sometimes, he was generally a sweet kid.
Since she had a break, she went to the entrance to wait for him.
But after half an ho
William Miller still hadn’t arrived.
Worried something ight have happened, she was about to call him when, passing by Leah Foster’s room, she saw William Miller showing his trophy to Leah Foster.
“This is all thanks to Auntie Leah! If Auntie Leah hadn’t come to the sports day with me and Dad, I wouldn’t have won the trophy. I love Auntie Leah the most!”
He clung to Leah Foster’s neck, chattering away.

“Auntie Leah, I wish you were my mom. You wouldn’t force me to study all those boring things, and you wouldn’t make me eat stuff I don’t like. Unlike my mom-she’s no fun, doesn’t know how to play games, and won’t let me play either!”
“Why is Mom so annoying?”

He sounded like a little grown-up. “Dad, don’t you think Mom is annoying? Why don’t you divorce her?”
In an instant, it felt like something inside Evelyn Hart shattered completely.
She couldn’t believe these words were coming from the son who always said, “I love Mom the most.”
Evelyn Hart stared at the warm scene in the room, clenching her fists and swallowing the bitterness welling up inside
her.
She remembered that in William Miller’s birthday party last year, when she asked him about his wish, he had cheerfully said, “I wish Auntie Leah could be my mom.”
Evelyn Hart had always thought “Auntie Leah” was Leah Chase, his kindergarten teacher. It was normal for a child to like their teacher, so she never thought twice about it.
But now, standing outside the room, she saw her husband and son doting on another woman, their faces lit up with a tenderness and happiness she’d never seen directed at her.
She felt as if struck by lightning, her hands and feet going numb.
The son she’d carried for nine months, given birth to after a difficult labor, and raised with seven years of hard work, now wanted a new mom.
And that new mom was none other than her husband’s long-cherished first love.
Suddenly, the door to the room opened.
Seeing her outside, William Miller immediately looked defensive. “What are you doing here? What do you want to do to Auntie Leah?”
His innocent face was filled with hostility.
Evelyn Hart opened her mouth to explain, but in the face of William Miller’s coldness, she couldn’t say a word.
So, he hadn’t rushed to the hospital to see her; he’d come for the Auntie Leah he adored…
“William Miller, don’t talk to your mom like that,” Ethan Miller scolded.
“Ethan, don’t be harsh on William. It’s all my fault,” came Leah Foster’s gentle voice from the room. Weakly, she added, “Is that Dr. Hart? I’m so sorry. William was only mean to you because of me. Please don’t blame him.”
ally such a good boy. I apologize on his behalf.”
those two sentences, Evelyn Hart was painted as the bad guy.
Miller charged at her, knocking her back. Evelyn Hart lost her balance, stumbling several steps until her back the wall, the pain searing through her.
She’d just been standing there, watching her husband, child, and another woman form a happy family. What had she done wrong?
William Miller pointed at her angrily. “Go away! Don’t come near Auntie Leah’s room! You’re a bad mom! You’re always picking on tie Leah! Leave!”
William Miller’s ou
urst drew a crowd of onlookers.
Not wanting to cause a scene at work, Evelyn Hart endured the pain and turned away.
From behind, she heard Leah Foster say, “Ethan, go after Dr. Hart and calm her down.”
“Don’t bother. She’ll be fine tomorrow.”
Evelyn Hart’s heart ached.
Yes, over the years, she’d never stayed mad for more than half a day because she couldn’t bear to be angry with her husband and son or hurt them.
But now, that very patience had become an excuse for them. How ridiculous.

It was all because they didn’t love her and didn’t think she was worth the effort.
This time, though, she wasn’t just angry; she was completely heartbroken.
Shortly after she got back to her office, the director knocked and came in.
“I shouldn’t interfere in your family affairs, but this is causing a lot of negative impact on the hospital. Dr. Hart, maybe you should consider taking a month off?”
Evelyn Hart pressed her lips together, her eyes cold. “Is this the hospital’s decision or Ethan Miller’s?”
This hospital was owned by the Miller Group, and Ethan Miller had full say.
The director looked torn. He knew about Evelyn Hart’s family situation.
Evelyn Hart understood. Ethan Miller was forcing her to take a leave so his first love could recover in peace.
Evelyn Hart asked, “What if I don’t agree?”
“Dr. Hart, you know you can’t fight against the top brass. You and Mr. Miller are family. You should talk things out instead of making a scene. If you insist on going against the hospital’s decision, I’m afraid we’ll have to… let you go.”
“Fine. I quit.”
After leaving the hospital, Evelyn Hart worried Ethan Miller wouldn’t agree to the divorce easily to save face. So, she went to see a lawyer.
She gave up her share of the property and custody of their son.
All she asked for was $50 million, so they could go their separate ways for good.
After all, they both thought the other wasn’t worth it, so there was no point in staying married.
When she got home, she noticed a photo on the TV cabinet that she’d never seen before. It was of William Miller and Ethan Miller, and not far away was a woman.
Looking closer, it was Leah Foster.
It turned out that, without her realizing, another woman had already become part of her family.
