Chapter 52 She’s My Wife

“I’m not going to let this happen.”

Ethan Miller firmly rejected Evelyn’s divorce request without a second thought.

Evelyn shrugged, seemingly unconcerned.

“Then we’ll just go our separate ways. Do what you want.”

Ethan Miller felt a surge of anger at her words, glaring at Evelyn.

“Evelyn, how did you end up like this? You cheat on me and act as if you’re completely justified?”

Evelyn looked at him like he was foolish, uninterested in further argument.

“If that’s how you want to think, I can’t help you.”

With that, she shot Ethan Miller a half-smile.

“Evelyn, you…”

Ethan Miller started to respond, but was quickly interrupted by Evelyn.

“Enough, Ethan Miller. Didn’t you used to say that?”

The disruption stunned Ethan Miller, and her words left him pale with shock.

He opened his mouth to explain but found himself at a loss for words.

After a full minute of silence, Ethan Miller finally managed to speak.

“I was never unfaithful with Leah.”.

Evelyn burst out laughing, locking her gaze on Ethan Miller.

“Enough, Ethan Miller. I’m not naive. I was willing to overlook things because I once had hope for us, but now-there’s no chance left for you.”

“Either you come with me to get divorced, or we leave each other alone. You can go now; I need to start dinner. There’s not enough rice, so Mr. Miller, you can leave.”

Evelyn said it plainly, as if she were dismissing him.

Ethan Miller understood the implication, but seeing Grayson Hayes beside him, he instinctively feigned ignorance.

“I can skip the rice and just have the vegetables. I don’t mind.”

Evelyn frowned, clearly unimpressed.

“Ethan Miller, why do you insist? Just go; let’s avoid each other from now on.”

For the first time, Ethan Miller realized just how little patience Evelyn had. In the past, he had never heard her complain, no matter how long he made her wait.

Now, as she sought a divorce, she couldn’t stand to be around him for even a moment.

At that moment, Ethan Miller fully understood.

Evelyn wasn’t joking about the divorce; she genuinely wanted to leave him.

Panic surged within Ethan Miller, his heart tightening as if under a vice grip, leaving him breathless.

Especially with Grayson Hayes there, the sense of ridicule made him feel inadequate.

The familiar sensation of being oppressed surged back after many years, Igniting a strong sense of crisis in Ethan Miller.

“Grayson Hayes is allowed to stay, yet as your legal husband, I can’t even stay for a meal?”

Evelyn found the situation dull and waved her hand dismissively.

“Suit yourself; I’m not responsible for catering to you.”

With that, she shut the door and returned to the kitchen.

Grayson Hayes followed her in naturally, stepping in to help wash the vegetables.

Evelyn noticed Grayson Hayes’ intent and didn’t stop him, handing him simple tasks. Ethan Miller watched the two shadows mingling in the kitchen, his irritation growing.

He headed toward the kitchen, hoping to join them, but realized there wasn’t room for him in the cramped space.

Defeated, Ethan Miller chose to calm himself and examined the tiny house, a hint of disdain flickering in his eyes.

Too small, too shabby-he couldn’t fathom how Evelyn could tolerate living like this.

Thinking this, he remarked,

“Evelyn, how can you stand living in such a rundown place? If you’re unhappy, I wouldn’t mind if you moved back to the Miller family home.”

Evelyn didn’t pause in her cooking, giving a scoff.

“If Mr. Miller is uncomfortable, he can leave right now. I like this little house.”

“It gives me limitless freedom and a future to aspire to.”

As Ethan Miller prepared to respond, Grayson Hayes stepped in to defend Evelyn.

“Since you’re just here to mooch off a meal, you should have the self-awareness not to complain about the host.”

His tone remained casual but dripped with sarcasm.

Ethan Miller wanted to retort, but the look on Evelyn’s face silenced him. If he said another word, he’d likely be kicked out.

Evelyn was his wife, and he couldn’t bear the thought of watching her betray him, so he opted to stay quiet.

Before long, the simple, everyday dishes were laid out on the table.

Ethan Miller frowned slightly, about to say something when he saw Grayson Hayes elegantly take out two bowls.

Of course, there were only two-one for Grayson Hayes and one for Evelyn.

Ethan Miller’s focus shifted abruptly; seeing that Evelyn showed no discontent toward Grayson Hayes made his anger flare.

Unable to tolerate it anymore, he stood up, gritting his teeth in frustration.

“Evelyn, are you really watching him make a fool of me? Are you trying to humiliate me?”

Evelyn cast a casual glance at him, a vague smile playing at her lips.

“I already told you, I won’t concern myself with you. If you’re intent on making yourself miserable, should I chase after you to

appease you?”

Grayson Hayes chimed in, cutting straight to the point.

“Don’t you have arms? If you want to eat, fend for yourself.”

Ethan Miller glared at the two of them, his anger boiling over, aching to throw down his chopsticks and walk away.

But facing Grayson Hayes’ taunting smile, he stubbornly held back.

So what if there was just one bowl? He could get his own.

Ethan Miller served himself some rice and sat at the other side of the table from Evelyn.

Looking at the spread before him, he felt no appetite.

The dishes on the table didn’t include a single one of his favorites.

Moreover, Evelyn had added chili; as an executive always busy, his stomach couldn’t handle spicy food.

Seething with rage, he slammed his chopsticks down on the table.

“Evelyn, is this deliberate? You know I can’t eat chill.”

Evelyn calmly set down her chopsticks, looking at him as if he were a stranger.

“Ethan Miller, I warned you before. If you choose not to leave, eat what’s provided or leave.”

Grayson Hayes picked up a serving of bright red, chili-laden vegetables for Evelyn, further aggravating Ethan Miller’s fury.

Seeing Grayson Hayes so comfortably serving her, the sarcasm came easily.

“Ethan Miller, what do you think of Evelyn? Is she your wife or…”

Grayson Hayes suddenly shifted his gaze sharply.

“Or is she your servant?”

Ethan Miller, his face burning in embarrassment and rage, stood up.

“Grayson Hayes, you’re just an up-and-coming third party. What right do you have to judge me?”

“Evelyn is undoubtedly my legitimate wife-no one can change that.”

Grayson Hayes showed no mercy, relentlessly exposing his lies.

“Is that so? Would you like me to tell you who others think Mrs. Miller really is?”

“Ethan Miller, if you tell enough lies, do you risk believing them yourself?”
