Chapter 62 Prove It – Do It Live Right Now

“She’s been out for so long; I’m sure she’s learned her lesson. If not, and she stays out there any longer, she might actually get caught up with Grayson Hayes.”

Leah Foster’s eyes flickered as she deliberately mentioned the matter of Evelyn cheating on him.

Sure enough, Ethan Miller, who had been eager to take their son to find Evelyn, immediately changed his expression.

Thinking of Grayson Hayes’s warning from that day, Ethan Miller felt like his face was being ground into the dirt.

Quickly, a brilliant idea formed in Ethan Miller’s mind.

If Evelyn was willing to hurt Grayson Hayes, would she be willing to hurt William Miller?

After all, William Miller was just a child; it wasn’t unusual for kids to act out in extreme ways.

With this thought, Ethan Miller subtly adjusted his approach and spoke to William Miller with a gentle insistence.

“William, your dad is a grown-up now. You can go find Mommy and bring her back. Your mom found a new dad, and you might end up living with them…”

At these words, William Miller exploded.

He had heard from his classmates that having a stepdad also meant having a stepmom. That meant he would be one of those

kids without a mom and dad.

William Miller immediately dropped his game console, standing up in anger.

“Dad, take me to find Mom! I don’t want a stepdad; I want Mom and Dad to be together!”

Ethan Miller had achieved his goal and promptly sent someone to take William Miller over.

He instructed them to come back immediately after dropping him off.

Then he crouched down, carefully giving his son instructions.

“William, when your mom asks why you came to find her, just say you came by yourself, okay? Otherwise, she’ll be angry with

Dad.”

Though William Miller didn’t fully understand why, he was always obedient and simply nodded.

“I got it, Dad.”

Afterward, Ethan Miller watched as the family driver took William Miller away.

After a moment’s thought, he inexplicably returned to the house and brought the game console back to William Miller.

“You can let your new dad play with you. He probably can’t beat me at this game.”

William Miller took it eagerly, already imagining how he would get rid of Grayson Hayes.

He nodded vigorously, his little fist clenched.

“Dad, I understand! Don’t worry, I’ll definitely bring Mom back.”

Ethan Miller watched as William Miller’s car disappeared, his eyes filled with anticipation.

He believed Evelyn wouldn’t be able to refuse William Miller.

Leah Foster quietly observed Ethan Miller’s reaction, feeling that everything was drifting towards a direction beyond her control.

Her gaze grew increasingly deep, and she realized she needed to take action.

She walked over to Ethan Miller and, pretending to be casual, asked with a smile,

“Ethan, don’t worry. William will definitely bring Dr. Hart back. But I noticed that something seems off with you since you came back today. Did something happen?”

The mention of this made Ethan Miller think of the question Evelyn had asked him earlier.

He pressed his lips together, seemingly making a decision, and suddenly asked,

“Leah, if I were to remarry Evelyn, what do you think…”

Leah Foster understood Ethan Miller’s implication, and her heart sank with a sense of certainty that something unforeseen had

occurred.

While she felt anger, her face remained cheerful, her tone as gentle as ever.

“Ethan, I will of course wish you both well. Rest assured, if Dr. Hart minds my presence, I’ll keep my distance. As long as you and William are happy, that’s all that matters.”

Ethan Miller nodded, a hint of complexity now flickering in his gaze as he looked at Leah Foster.

Indeed, Leah was so kind, while Evelyn was far too petty; she would never compete with Evelyn for anything.

“Don’t worry, I was just curious. It’s really nothing, just that Evelyn has done some unexpected things lately.”

Before long, William Miller found himself standing at Evelyn’s doorstep.

He knocked on the door, which opened quickly to reveal a face William Miller did not recognize.

Immediately thinking of the stepdad issue, his little face hardened, and his tone grew hostile.

“Are you the stepdad my mom found for me?”

Grayson Hayes found the title amusing. He crouched down to meet William Miller’s gaze, smiling slightly.

“Stepdad? Although not quite yet, I certainly have a good chance.”

Evelyn approached just in time to hear that and couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time.

“Grayson Hayes, what nonsense are you spouting now?”

She stepped to the door, looking at William Miller with indifference.

“Did you come here specifically to find me?”

William Miller nodded and took a step closer to Evelyn, hesitating for a moment before grasping her pinky finger.

“Mom, can you come home with me? I-I don’t want a stepdad. I don’t want to be a child nobody wants.”

As he spoke, his voice gradually broke, pointing accusingly at Grayson Hayes, wanting him gone without mercy.

“Mom, I hate him! Can you make him leave?”

Grayson Hayes raised an eyebrow, glancing at Evelyn as if considering his options.

Evelyn rolled her eyes, clearly not in the mood to indulge.

“It doesn’t matter if you like him or not; he’s not going anywhere. If you can’t stand seeing him, then you might as well go find your dad. If that doesn’t work, reach out to Auntie Leah and have her take you away.”

William Miller wanted to say more but held back, seeing the coldness in Evelyn’s expression.

He obediently followed her into the room.

Upon entering and seeing how small the room was-smaller than his own closet-William Miller couldn’t help but grumble.

“It’s so tiny; it’s not even as big as my bedroom…”

Evelyn glanced over, replying coolly,

“If it’s too small for you, you can step outside right now.”

William Miller immediately fell silent, not daring to utter another word.

Before long, his stomach grumbled with hunger, prompting him to rush to Evelyn’s side, whispering,

“Mom, I’m hungry.”

Evelyn sighed and, after a moment’s hesitation, stood up and headed to the kitchen.

At the end of the day, William Miller was still her son; she couldn’t bring herself to be harsh with him.

Taking advantage of Evelyn’s absence in the kitchen, William Miller glared at Grayson Hayes.

When he saw that Grayson Hayes was completely ignoring him, he pulled out his game console in frustration and began to

play.

Seeing the “game over” message on his screen only worsened his mood.

Just then, he noticed the sounds coming from the next game console nearby.

William Miller tried to resist but finally couldn’t hold back, edging closer carefully.

When he saw that Grayson Hayes was playing the same game, his eyes brightened for a moment.

But he still scoffed defiantly.

“You’re so bad at this, there’s no way you’ll make it through. I just don’t get why Mom wants to be with you.”

Grayson Hayes raised an eyebrow, handing his game console to William Miller.

“I’m on level twelve. How about you?”

At this, William Miller’s eyes widened in disbelief as he repeated incredulously,

“What did you say? You cleared how many levels? Twelve?! No way! I won’t believe it unless you show me right now how to beat level eight!”
