Chapter 63 The Guilty Accusing the Innocent

Chapter 63 The Guilty Accusing the Innocent

“I’m not bothered if you don’t believe me.”

Grayson Hayes could see the implication in William Miller’s eager yet slightly guilty gaze.

After all, he was just a child, and Grayson silently sighed to himself.

His feelings towards William Miller were complicated. On one hand, he despised the way William had allied with outsiders to hurt Evelyn. But on the other hand, he understood that Evelyn loved him dearly, and by extension, it was hard for him to outright.

dislike William.

Simply letting William off the hook felt too lenient. Grayson decided it was time to give William a small lesson.

Upon hearing this, William froze, blinking in confusion.

Didn’t his friends say that this was the most effective method?

“If you don’t want to play, then you’re a liar. You’re lying to a little kid; that makes you a bad person.”

Grayson Hayes glanced at William with a scoff.

“Did they mention that helping others bully your own mother makes you an even worse child?”

William fell silent, staring fixedly at Grayson’s game screen.

Grayson didn’t expect his words to resolve William’s inner conflicts and rekindle his feelings for Evelyn. He merely hoped that, at

the very least, William could avoid hurting Evelyn further.

“If you want me to teach you, that’s fine. But from now on, you can’t speak ill of your mother in front of others.”

William thought for a moment and nodded in agreement.

“Okay, I promise. Now hurry and teach me.”

For a child, Grayson had no intention of going back on his word. He not only taught William how to clear the eighth level but

went on to guide him through the subsequent levels as well.

Before long, admiration shone in William’s eyes, and he eagerly attached himself to Grayson, asking to play other games together.

When Evelyn came out of the kitchen after preparing dinner, she was taken aback by the sight.

As William’s mother, she knew him well-his personality was quite troublesome, and due to his intelligence, he often felt

superior.

Even Ethan Miller, in William’s eyes, didn’t command enough respect for admiration.

Evelyn glanced at Grayson with a questioning look.

Grayson simply raised an eyebrow and smiled, glancing at the handheld console in his hands.

Now it made sense; Evelyn understood everything in an instant.

William Miller was a boy with ambitions-determined at such a young age to become an esports player.

He tended to gravitate toward those who excelled in gaming. However, since Ethan Miller had no real skill in games, William

didn’t feel any admiration for him.

Yet Grayson Hayes’s gaming prowess was quite impressive.

“William Miller, come eat.”

William was reluctant, his tone unwittingly irritable.

“I’m not eating anymore; you can eat by yourself.”

Grayson Hayes abruptly powered off his game console and looked at William with a serious expression.

“Go eat.”

William wanted to protest, but seeing Grayson’s stern gaze, he could only pout and unwillingly sat at the table to eat.

Evelyn’s surprise deepened; it was the first time she had seen William comply so readily.

Throughout the day, Evelyn watched in a daze as Grayson seemed to have a firm grip on William, even coaxing out quite a bit of information about Ethan.

Even the fact that he had come looking for Evelyn at Ethan’s behest was revealed.

Evelyn’s expression darkened, her contempt for Ethan Miller only growing.

“I never imagined Ethan would be so despicable, using his own son like this.”

At that moment, she recalled how Ethan had once accused her of using William to win affection.

A bitter smile crept onto her lips-truly, the wicked are the first to cry foul.

Unwilling to swallow this humiliation, she not only declined to keep William but also took it upon herself to return him to the Miller family.

Grayson Hayes wanted to accompany them, but Evelyn refused.

“Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I have to meet Ethan eventually; I can’t just always call you to tag along, can I?”

Grayson Hayes instinctively spoke up.

“Of course you can; your safety is my top priority.”

Evelyn stared at Grayson in surprise, a flicker of gratitude in her eyes.

But just as quickly, she pulled herself back from that feeling.

“Gray, you know I’m not the naive girl I once was. Promises made in love only count while in love, and if one day you become like Ethan…”

Evelyn didn’t finish her sentence, cut off by Grayson Hayes.

“Evelyn, I’m not like Ethan Miller. You can trust me.”

He understood the unspoken concern behind her words and, instead of resenting her hesitation, he felt even more compassionate.

“Evelyn, whether you believe it or not, I’m not him.”

“I’ll support whatever you want to do, but I will always stand by your side.”

“If you want to go, then go. Just promise me if anything happens, you’ll reach out immediately.”

Evelyn smiled and nodded, no longer resisting Grayson’s kindness.

Because of Ethan Miller, she was indeed fearful about the prospect of love.

But having decided to welcome Grayson into her life, she wouldn’t reject the warmth and care he offered.

“I’m leaving now.”

Grayson nodded and looked at William with a meaningful gaze.

“A man’s word is important. William Miller, do you understand?”

William nodded, while Evelyn watched, puzzled, trying to grasp their cryptic conversation but choosing not to dwell on it.

Grayson walked Evelyn downstairs, watching them disappear from view.

Then, he waved over to a nearby bodyguard, who quickly approached.

“Sir.”

Grayson nodded and instructed, “Follow them. If Ethan Miller makes a move, do not hold back.”

The bodyguard received the directive and soon vanished into the night.

Evelyn and William Miller drove in silence, both lost in their thoughts.

William stole several glances at Evelyn but remained silent.

Evelyn felt disappointment towards William; she hardly cared anymore about his thoughts and thus kept to herself.

William, however, felt uneasy. He instinctively wanted to lash out at Evelyn but thought of his agreement with Grayson and

moderated his tone.

“Mom, are you really going to be with someone else? Do you no longer want Dad?”

Evelyn didn’t answer directly, merely replying with a cool question.

“Isn’t that what you all wanted?”

William wanted to retort, but the words stuck in his throat.

He fell silent, turning his head stubbornly away from her, refusing to engage and hoping Evelyn would comfort him like she used

But Evelyn was happily unbothered, driving fast down the road.

When she noticed a car trailing behind them in the rearview mirror, warmth surged through her, and she couldn’t help but smile.

“We’ve arrived.”
