The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Getting in the public transport vehicles was the real start of hell.

On nearly every bus, elderly passengers were passing out. Once they fell, everyone else on the bus had nowhere to

run.

Some lucky ones made it to work, like the clothing store manager just now. They had their own cars or rode electric bikes and got there safely, only to find the doors closed.

People started gathering in small groups, confused, when someone covered in blood stumbled toward them.

This was the early apocalypse. Everyone who saw this assumed it was just a fight or an accident.

The ones trying to help instantly became zombie victims.

Every corner of the city was seeing this. Everything was falling.

Hayley knew this was just the beginning. Most people were still stuck at home.

Now was the perfect time to leave-before everyone realized what was happening. Later, there would be a mass exodus, and the whole city’s traffic would collapse.

“Please help!”

A young woman appeared in front of Hayley, arms stretched out. By the side of the road, her boyfriend was holding up a fallen elderly woman.

“Stop the car! Someone’s fainted! Stop and take her to the hospital!”

She stood in the middle of the street, trying to flag Hayley down.

At that moment, Hayley’s car was the only one on the road. No one knew why traffic was so light. Calls to 911 weren’t going through.

The woman had to stop Hayley’s car, and she blocked the street.

Hayley looked at her, eyes cold, and pressed the gas all the way down.

Whoosh!

The woman jumped back just in time, terrified of Hayley’s car, which was driving in a straight line at full speed. Otherwise, she would have been hit.

“Hey! What the hell? You wouldn’t help and almost ran me over! You’re crazy and cold-blooded! You’re a selfish, heartless psycho!”

“Honey, you okay?”

“Yeah, but I’ve never seen someone like that! She didn’t slow down at all and almost hit me!”

“Stand to the side when you flag cars, alright? There are selfish people everywhere; there are hardly anyone like us. Snap a photo and post it online to expose her-argh!”

The man suddenly screamed.

His neck had been bitten, and the bite came from the elderly woman he had been helping.

She woke from her faint, eyes gray and lifeless, and sank her teeth into him. Blood sprayed everywhere.

“Honey!” The woman took two steps back, then swung her bag at the zombie elderly woman. “Let go of my

husband! Let go of him!”

She kicked and hit the zombie while her husband was freed

“Let’s go to the hospital now! Are you okay?” she shouted, supporting him while fending off the zombie.
