Chapter 176
“Captain Reid, are you joking Alex’s voice was icy, and the cold anger pouring off him could freeze the air.
Hayley smiled kindly. “You’re still a bit green. I bet you thought you had this handled. Are you feeling upset now?”
A vein throbbed at the back of Alex’s head. “What do you think?”
“Alright,” Hayley said.
Slowly, she stood up.
“Since you’re still young and green, I’ll teach you something. Let’s use your own rules and see if you can accept the result. You said we should divide supplies based on contribution, so tell me: what exactly did Hope Base contribute to this mission? Did you help during the zombie siege yesterday, or did you kill a single zombie today?”
Alex’s face darkened like a storm. “We provided the map.”
“Answer my question.” Hayley’s gaze burned straight through him. “Did Hope Base kill a single zombie? One. Any one at all.”
Alex’s lips pressed into a thin line. He couldn’t say a word.
Of course, they hadn’t killed any zombies. That kind of dangerous work wasn’t for people like them.
Hayley let out a sharp laugh. “Alright, then. I remember exactly what you told me yesterday. You said that if someone else does the work for you, it doesn’t count. No contribution means no reward. But unlike you, I’m generous. I’ll give you another chance.”
She turned to the crowd.
“Ask around. If any team is willing to say they killed zombies on your behalf, I’ll count that as your contribution.”
Alex stiffened.
This whole thing felt like a public execution. She was throwing/last night’s words right back at him.
Well, that was “kind” of her.
He scanned the people around him anyway.
But unlike Hayley, he didn’t have allies. Not one base spoke up.
Hope Base had managed to offend everyone.
Everyone had seen Hope Base sit comfortably through all the fighting yesterday.
And today, Alex himself had suggested reducing the small bases’ shares so Hayley could get more. He had personally cut their original portion in half.
Each small base now received 2.5% instead of the original 5%, and Alex was the reason behind it.
Who would stand up for him after that?
Besides, siding with him would offend Hayley on top of it. They weren’t Base K1, who actually have a good rapport and real contributions. Why would they take the heat for Alex?
Hayley grinned. “See that? Even if I want to be generous, nobody wants to share their contribution.’
“But we were the ones who brought you all here!” Alex snapped, fists tightening.
“Now, that’s not true,” Hayley corrected him.
She tapped her temple.

“you didn’t bring me. You brought them. Don’t tell me you’ve suddenly forgotten. I was kicked out of your task force. I wasn’t part of your grain division, and you wouldn’t even count me as a teammate. You never gave me any benefit, so how can you claim credit from me for the rap? Does that sound reasonable to you?”
Alex’s fists trembled at his sides. Without a word, he started walking toward her. As he stepped forward, a wave of mental pressure surged out.
He was unleashing his control variant gift.
But the moment his ability reached her, there was a metall ring.
