The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 223

Chapter 223

“Alright, go on. Get back inside,” Hayley said, waving him off

“God, I promise I will live a good and honest life, eating well-balanced meals, as long as you keep my boss and my colleague safe out there,” Robert prayed earnestly..

Hayley and Leonard held back their urge to roll their eyes.

Derek blinked when he heard that. He looked at Hayley. “Boss, when did you pick up sotmeone like that?”

“Just recruited him,” Hayley said casually.

“Not bad. He’s dressed pretty well, too. Two brand-new down jackets.”

“Should’ve joined me back then. Do you regret it now?”

Derek fell silent.

Yes, he was drowning in regret!

He tightened his thin jacket around himself, stepped on the gas, and drove off.

Their vehicle soon reached the main road outside Base K1. Liam’s convoy was already waiting there.

When Liam saw them arrive, the convoy moved out at once and headed straight for the wholesale clothing district.

Days of heavy snow had slowed the zombies down, and many were stuck under drifts. The ride was surprisingly smooth. 1

Whenever they ran into small groups of zombies, they just drove straight through. The thick snow made it impossible for the zombies to chase the vehicles at any speed.

The wholesale district was located in the southern outskirts of Aecraton, near the long-distance bus terminal.

Aecraton had invested a significant amount of money in developing that area, aiming to transform it into a bustling commercial hub with the station as its centerpiece.

But people were already shopping online, and offline stores had been dead for a long time now. Besides, hardly anyone even

took buses anymore.

The bus terminal was far quieter than the train station.

As a result, only the old wholesale clothing market was still operating somewhat normally. The big malls around it had become

୮ empty shells.

When the convoy was about four miles from the district, another line of vehicles appeared on the road ahead.

From inside the middle car, Hayley spotted a familiar place and a familiar looking convoy right away.

An abandoned factory sat halfway up the slope. A two-story office building stood in the center, with long tactory workshops stretching out on both sides.

She had spent ten years of her past life there.

Shield Base. What a small world.

Leonard noticed the change in her expression. “Boss, what’s wrong?”

Hayley turned to him, motioned him closer, and pointed at the factory. “Remember that place. That’s our enemy ”

Leonard paused. “Got it.”

Hayley wanted Leonard to keep this firmly in mind.

In her past life, he had lived there with her, too. His life had been just as miserable

The two convoys merged. Only two cars stood ahead of them now.

The lead car door opened; a thin, well-dressed man in his early thirties stepped out, wearing gold timmed glasses and a bright, polite smile.

“Welcome, welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. I can’t tell you how happy this makes me!”

Liam pulled over and got out, studying the man. “You’re Wallace Goodwin from Shield Base?”
