Oscar tugged at the corner of his mouth. The torn cheek muscle split wider, and bright red blood poured out in heavy drops. It ran down his face, smeared across his lips, and soaked his teeth, turning everything a vivid red in seconds.
“I killed her. She was a zombie! She turned into a zombie… I killed a zornbje… I killed her!”
As Oscar spoke, he broke down crying.
“I saved the last bit of water for her. Every time we got food, I made sure she had some. If I didn’t give it to her, she’d get mad. I loved her so much. Why did she still try to drag me down with her? If she wanted to die, she could’ve done it herself! Why was she so selfish? She deserved it! She deserved it! I’d still kill her if I had the chance!”
“Oscar, you’re turning into…”
“I’m not a zombie!”
Oscar looked up. The blood-soaked color drained from his face as dark blue veins surfaced beneath his pale skin. A sharp, eerie light burst from his eyes.
“I’m not! I don’t wanna become a zombie! Please, save me! I wanna live!”
He rushed toward the group.
With every step, his expression grew more twisted. The black in his pupils was swallowed up, turning into a cloudy gray-white. The desperation to survive in his eyes slowly morphed into the excitement of spotting food.
Cecilia and Ned were so terrified they kept backing away.
Cecilia bumped into a shelf behind her and almost fell. Ned yanked her into his arms, squeezed his eyes shut, and hid behind
Hayley.

A saber flashed, and blood sprayed.
Oscar, charging at full speed, was split clean in two.
His body hit the floor with a heavy thud. Driven by momentum, it slid forward several more feet. The saber lodged in his head slipped back out.
Hayley never even moved her feet. She adjusted Griffin on her back, then calmly pulled the saber from the zombie’s head.
Griffin snickered. “I really love watching you kill zombies. You look so cool.”
“You’ll be my next one sooner or later.”
Griffin immediately shut up.
Just then, voices came from the bathroom inside.
“Lindsay!”
“Lindsay, open the door!”
“Lindsay, what’s wrong with you?”
Hayley was beyond speechless at this group of clueless idiots. She carried her blade and walked inside.
The moment she reached the bathroom, a painfully strained scream came from within.
“Argh’ Bradley, I don’t know why my stomach hurts so bad. It hurts so much I’m bleeding a
Hearing her voice, Bradley pounded on the door even harder. “Lindsay, open the down let me look you say
“Are you kidding me?” Hayley huost lost it. “Move!”
